View Full Version : 4 yd salt dogg
I was at the Ford dealer today and there was a new 550 dressed up in full snow gear, waiting to be delivered. It was equipped with a 4000 series salt dogg and dang did it look sharp. Does anyone have any experiences with this unit or know of anyone who has? It looked similar to the smaller units but at the same time, it also had some differences. Does the rep have any input on the 4 yd unit?

Functionally it's the exact same idea as the 1500 and 2000. Everything is bigger, though. Bigger motors, bigger augers, etc. Because of the size, we did a single walled hopper, but all frame that it fits into is 304 stainless. There are NO carbon steel components in the structure of the spreader. That was an expensive proposition last year, but it definitely pays off.
The response has been very good and very few changes are in the works for next season.
We just debuted our SCE96 (8' ELECTRIC V-BOX) at the NTEA show this week as well. A very traditional chain v-box with independent chain and spinner motors. Very cool - and I think it will be very popular.

Scott - any furhter information or pictures of the new release 8' all electric SCE96? Is it available in stainless?
I would agree - I think this would prove to be a popular choice.

The 4 yard Dogg with the auger is slick. No slope in the front of the v box. The entire hopper is a V. Full length huge auger with an inverted v over it.
I was impressed for sure. :drool
Dave the stainless electric sce96 (I believe) is not poly.

T - I beleive the SCE96 is a steel v-box, just not sure it's stainless. I'm interested because an electic conveyer would be nice to serve as a backup/additional unit capable of sand/salt. Seems we get more requests for sand/salt every year, so I want to make sure there's a plan in place. The two 1500s in use now have performed well, but are not optimal for sand/salt. IMHDAO, the auger feed is what makes their performance less then desired, and a conveyer feed is ideal.
I have to agree, the 4000 is a nice looking unit though!

Dave,
What about Smith Stainless Steel Spreaders and why not Hydro? I was going to say even if you do not have Central you could mount a pony motor but I guess the idea is to get away from Gas motors.
Are you salting with the 5500? Undertailgate?
Dave.

At this point it is ONLY available in stainless. That's probably the way it will stay. As this technology gets further developed at Buyers you may see an expansion of our non-gas options in future seasons. Keep your eyes open for the Mr. Fusion powered spreader in 2020...:drool

Thanks Scott - I'll be watching for it.
Dave - currently run a Downeaster s/s gas powered v-box on the 5500. Nice unit, has worked out very well for us.

Oh okay. Honda or Briggs engine? Used one last year and had issues with the throttle cable.
How many yards can it hold?
