This is my first post on here so bear with me. Many of you might recognize my name as the author of the Walter truck history books. For all of you that have purchased them thank you for your support.

The truck listed below is not mine nor do I know anything about it. The fellow who contacted me about it saw my FWD pictures on Hanks Truck page and thought I could assist him in selling it as the town in Long Island where the truck resides wants to dispose of it. Looks like a decent old FWD and would be sad to have it sold for scrap so maybe you guys could find a home for it. This is the email he sent me-

"Our Village is interested in selling our FWD to a collector or
someone who would want it for parts...Runs great needs front
steering rod and front brake cylinder"

Hi Mark, excellent job on the Walters books. Lots of history in there, I have both books and enjoyed them thoroughly and own a 1960 ACBS of my own that I use on our farm roads . A question ... on the inside of the front & back covers of the second book is a glimpse of some letters of correspondence between town & highway garage representatives and the Walter factory & dealers. Is there any chance of more (all) of those being published or some how becoming available ? I think many Walter fans would be as interested a I am in the additional history. Chip Austin

Mark, can we buy the books direct through you, or should we go through a book dealer/store/amazon? I'd rather see you get the $$$ than someone else.

Let me add my kudos to you on the excellent Walters books. They are "top shelf" in my snowplowing library. I can't wait to see the FWD book you spoke of. If it's anything like the Walters volumes, I'll be quoting it chapter and verse to anyone who'll listen to me! :grinz

Chip,

those letters were a handful I purchased at a truck show back in the 1990's. They are original and I would need to find them as they have been packed away. I could provide copies when I do find them but all the ones I had were shown in the books.

:winkThanks again for the all compliments and support guys. I am very proud of the books and I had always wanted to write a truck book but on a specialized truck as well as one of my favorite trucks, not just the run of the mill ones. It was good timing too for the history of the company as when the books were published Walter was purchased by KME and sadly was absorbed so now the history is forever preserved.

Alan, I really appreciate the offer of going through me to buy books but I would just need to steer the orders to my publisher so I will provide the contact info on my next post for you and anyone else that would like to buy some.

Do you know what they are asking for that FWD?

I emailed the guy last week and he said they were very negotiable and hoping to guide the truck into the hands of a serious collector/museum or someone who would take good care of it and preserve it for years to come and use it...

That would be a cool truck to have, maybe someday when I hit the lottery to restore the right way!

HAHAHA!!!

Having an arsenal of milling/machining equipment at your disposal would make this a fun project. If the parts can't be bought then why not make them. Walt this is calling you!!!

Those old FWD used dodge cabs from the 50's. I think they are called "C" series cab. I think some Oshkosh and Rio used them also... :popcorn2
I would like to heard the verdict from a real experts...
