Just wondering who were is plowing with any big trucks, like big 6 wheeler dumps, 10 wheelers, tri-axles? If so, what do you guys plow? Big parking lots, road, for the town/state?
Recently i've been noticing more larger dumps with plows on them. Just wondering who here is plowing with their big trucks.
Here's a pic of a tri-axle i saw in norwalk,ct with a plow on it.

Heres my 1996 Mack Rd triaxle with 12' frink and 1999 ford F-650 with a 10' meyers(modded C-8 for small streets),both have central hydros and UnderTailgate Spreaders. They both are subbed out most of a storm with the city plowing streets, but when they are done I usually use them both for salt ,and the 650 for plowing Comm. lots.

Do you run chains on your RD and 650? do you have any weight in the beds? What are the specs on your tri-axle?

Fresh out of High School, I worked one season for my Town Highway department, I ran a Ford L-8000 with a Frink funnel blade and v-box. It didn't take long to figure there was more money to be made in this business, and the following season I bought my own truck and started up business.
I've posted my buddy's Oskosh here, it's since been replaced by an '89 IH 8300. He contracts to the same town I do with my 550.

F800 Ford with 10' dump box, tailgate spreader, 10' Monroe full-trip highway plow. We can get 6 yds salt and still be legal, and have the power to move it. This truck is a plowing machine, only been stuck once when it slipped off the driveway.
F750 Ford with 10' Monroe municipal v-box and 10' Viking plow. This is a backup plow truck, mostly used for salting. But if we get a lot of drifting or a blizzard, we have the plow on it. WE can carry about 8 tons on this one and still be well within its GVW.
Someday I'll get pictures posted when I get a program that I can resize pics with. The program that came with my computer expired and I never bought the full program.

2003 Ford F-650 w/ Cat 3126 & 6 speed trans, 16' flatbed body & 10' Western blade.
1987 Ford F-700 w/ 370 V8 gasser, 5 speed trans w/2-speed rear, 16' flatbed body & modified 8'8" Western blade.
No chains needed at all but these trucks do need weight. I normally load anywhere from 6,000 lbs to 12,000 lbs of ballast on the bed and keep it towards the back so that most of the weight is concentrated on the rear axel. We have been plowing with trucks like these since 1980. There a good configuration for our type of work.
We do several commercial properties, our drywall yard, parking lots for neighboring businesses, a medical complex, and our church parking lot when needed. Also, some of our residential work can be done with the large trucks but are normally handeled by my Superduty.

Will be ready for next season with this truck..... I would love a plow on it, but I have my doubt as to it getting one, it can do more good (making more money) just salting that plowing. That #1400 plow means #1400 less salt.
