I just got this from a friend who bought it and never used it. I know they work great on the diesel's and wanted to try it on a Ford F-250 gas. Any tips on putting it in? Does anyone else use them on gas truck?
Thanks
-Nick
P.S I posted here instead of the Ford disscusion because i felt it applies to all trucks, move it if you'd like!

It will work great on a gas motor too, provided it will fit.Call your local Ford dealer and have them check the part number,to see if it fits your truck.
Or post the part number here, and I'll try and I'll check it in the morning for ya.
If it does fit,you need to knock out a frost plug in the block, and install the block heater in place of it.Drain the coolant first,or you'll get a nice green shower.

Yea i checked what freeze plug i was gonna use, and im pretty sure this one will fit because the instructions mention a 5.8L V8 but if you would check Chris that would be great!
Thanks alot,

The instructions are usually universal for all the kits sometimes,so even though your motor may be listed, the actual heater is different for different engines.
Let me check on it,and i'll report back soon.Got a bud at the Ford dealer I used to work at way back,I'll get him to run the part number for me if they are open tonight.

It is the correct part number for your truck,so it will work just fine.
If you want to avoid the mess, pull the block drain plug for that side of the block,to let all the coolant out.

not the one on the raditor?

The one on the radiator will only drain it halfway,or as low as the water pump. You'll still get a pretty good amount come out when you knock the freeze plug out,and it's messy.
If you take out the block drain plug,on the same side as your installing the block heater,it will drain it right down below the frost plugs,so no mess. You don't even need to mess with the one in the rad (it may be siezed,or it may leak afterwards),as the coolant will drain out the block plug.
Remove the plug with the rad cap still in place,so it will not come out real fast, then remove the cap,and it should all come out.
