I have a 79 K10 shortbed with a 350. Not sure on the tranny. It was a snowy night up here in Alaska and that night my truck decided it wasn't gonna grip the road goin up this hill so i hit the ditch which threw me up and onto the driver side. thats where it sat for about 3 hrs until the wrecker go there. towed it to my work and took out the plugs and blew out the oil in the cylinders.then changed the oil. Runs just like it did before. Great! Went to put it into gear... nothing, it acted like it went straight to nuetral. Gave it some gas and then with a little bounce it popped into gear and i rolled on. Now its 6 days later and its doin the same thing but only when first starting. If the tranny fluid is warm it has no problem. Im wondering if when i tipped it some sediments from the pan came up and plugged the filter. I checked the fluid level and its good maybe a smig above but nothing to worry about. Just wanted to know if there is any other thoughts on this. thnx

Wouldnt hurt to do a tranny flush (Including the torque convertor) , and service.

got a good transmission shop up there?

Remove the trans pan and inspect for metal, water etc. Then replace filter, gasket and pan.

Also, you may have jared your linkage lose or out of alignment. Also, check for broken motor and transmission mounts.

I second the fubar linkage most likely to the mounts being goofed. Or if it sat on its belly runing sucking air that could be bad but I doubt you let it run for long on its lid ;)

Did you check the tranny fluid??? Does it do it in both forward and reverse? Also does it slip while shifting? Sounds like it is low on fluid to me. I don't think dirt would have afffected the tranny filter if the truck was not running. Changing the filter would be a good idea though.
