Looking to Throw a plow, just a regular straight blade, on our 2004 Chevy 4500. Its diesel with the allison auto but its only 4x2 not 4x4. If anyone has a picture of their topkick or Kodiak with a plow on it? Ive seen em on here but cant find them now. What manufacturers make plows for this truck? will the 4x2 do well enough in the snow with weight in the back to be worth while? Thanks guys

Definately worth it you just have to use commons sense on where you go with it. Check out my albums I have some pictures of mine in there.

I dont know why you need a picture of one  You can get a mount for that truck and it will move snow if you run it on blacktop and run it at its max gvw. Any of the bigger snowplow manufactures make plows for that truck....

Just wanted pics to see where it would be mounted and all. Heard that you have to move and/or cut the bumper and all to get it properly mounted. Heard that just a loaded vbox in the back is alright but yes more weight is needed

You don't need to cut the bumper, well I guess it depends on the plow, for fisher you don't have to cut it.

A V-Box about 1/2 loaded is all you need.

The Boss requires slots cut in the bumper

There has also been a lot of discussion on plowing with 4x2 vs. 4x4. The broad consensus is, basically, "yes" but be conscious of your route and don't put yourself in a position where you'll need to reverse up a hill or something.

This, of course, is with your larger GVWR trucks, not a 2WD Ford Ranger or something....even 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks I'd stay away from 2WD.

I ran the 5500 in this storm for 20 hours with little problems with no 4 wd. (front drive shaft is at the shaft shop)

You have to think about your moves.

Remember, more weight means more force. More force means more stuff to break. Load the truck too heavy and the plow/truck have to give when you hit something. I prefer to plow a little light to allow things to spin/slide rather than snap.

The aforementioned Boss that Howard mentioned is now mine. It is a great combo. The V allows you to carry and when you're pushing up hill you can V to make it easier. It is a tad narrow for the truck, but you don't have to go into full V every time.

Good luck.
