I paid 306.00 for a pallet last week. Considered myself lucky to even be able to get it. Thats how tight it is around here.

I know one guy that still has a steady supply to pallets of salt. It is a mixture of rock salt, potassium and mag. Im not joking when i say he is getting $18 a bag. He is selling pallets for 14 a bag. I was there last friday after icing event and there was 45 min wait to get loaded so many people were buying it. I guess the difference is he is a management company supply house and these were management companies buying it, so they don't have to mark up the price and try to sell it again.

IF you need salt in MD let me know i can do better than that, and my supplier has it in stock. Ive seen and heard of prices between 10-20 for a 50lbs bag!!!!!! Its crazy.

Kinda makes you wonder if it wouldn't be worth it to buy a 40 foot shipping container and fill it with 50 lb. bags sometime around September, then open it up and sell it around the beginning of February. I'd bet even if we had a mild winter and you had to sit on it for another whole year you'd come out ahead...

I was thinking that too digger. Load up my trailer and take a ride down there with it, sell it on the street.

Yeah. Then you'd get your 15 minutes of fame--"Carpetbagging New Yorker gouges local residents on rock salt prices. Film at 11..."

I have been forced to use water softener salt and paying $6.00 a bag. The bad part is I go through over 2 pallets per storm and on some storms using almost 3. I feel bad for people with water softeners, they can't even get salt for their systems. I know some guys who have had to start putting down MAG on parking lots and are paying $10.00 per bag. If I had a tractor trailer load I would sell it and go to the Caymans on vacation. I was able to get it for $3.00 a bag, in December.

Pelican,
Just make sure you stop here on your way down & drop off a pallet. ;)

Good thing the weather has been cooperating I guess. Nah... scratch that thought, I'd rather be plowing & sanding as the last resort than not having the snow work. Come on Mother Nature... WAKE UP AGAIN!!!
