We have a 91 Chevy 1500 truck. During the last snow storm we were pulling a trailer and it was working just fine. Then we went to back up and then start up a hill. The four wheel drive quit. Hubby tried to lock it in again and it grabbed and then the whole truck quit. No fuel, no 4 wheel. We let it roll back and then went home to look in the manual. Went back to the truck and checked the fuses....blown. We replaced the fuses and poof blew them again. The fuse for the fuel line was fine and the truck started but no 4-wheel. We've determined it is the actuator but the replacement kit to electric comes with a cable that has two connectors which hook to the old plug and the new actuator....the problem is there's a brown wire in a plastic cable that is about 4 ft long that goes where? Doesn't seem to have anyplace to go. The meter doesn't really show it's hooked to anything.
Any help would be appreciated.

ok...we went and replaced the actuator, and started the truck...no four wheel drive. Doesn't blow fuses. But doesn't work. Checked the voltage coming from the switch and it's 12v.
Any suggestions?

Nancy......There are 2 different accuators for certain years of
newer GM trucks. They may have given you the newer style
which requires you to change the wiring plug........
If nobody chimes in here soon........Do a search..............
There was a big thread on the 2 different accuators.
It told the difference in them and also how to wire up the newer
style to a older GM truck...................geo

You need to run the brown wire back to the left side of the transmission, and splice it into the harness there. It is a brown wire you are looking to splice into.
Make sure your connections are waterproof,as they will be subject to salt and spray under there.
