Am thinking about putting a plow on my Durango but a neighbor says not a good idea. He says it's not recommended because the front end can't handle it??? I would be using it only for my 1/10 mile driveway and would look for something very easy to put on and off so I can use it for other things as it's our #2 vehicle. What do you folks think? Is he right? Also, any suggestions as to what plow to look for would be appreciated. I hate the thought of spending big bucks for a new one so would likely look for something used for say up to $2000 or so. I found a vehicle receiver on Craig'slist for a Western Ultra-mount but it didn't say what it would fit. Are they universal for that plow? Thanks for any input, Doug

Sure you can put a plow on a durango, guys do it all the time. Just find something lightweight, like a snow-way, curtis, Western Suburbanite, Fisher homesteader, or blizzard LT (i think that's what they're called).
No, all mounts are not the same, every vehicle is different. The receivers you're talking about are probably the receiver pockets that pin on the mount for a western ultramount. Western plows usually come with the receiver pockets, but the lightweight plows dont use the ultramount system anyway...
For a 1/10 mile driveway, you can use just about anything that fits the truck, just stay away from the cheap throw-away pieces of blow-molded plastic that rest on the bumper. :nope

The home depot snow plow is a "proshovel" made by snowbear. I wouldn't waste your time on them. Once you own a plow, and the neighbors figure it out, you'll have more to plow than you think. That being said, I would advise against an oversize shovel that you push with your car, and buy something with a little substance to it. :wink The snowbear/proshovel personal plow may be fine, until you find the curb/stump/rock/whatever buried under the snow... Keep in mind, your durango is a midsize SUV, likely with a V8, and they aren't exactly lightweights... It could easily twist one of those snowbears into a pretzel. I think the snowbears should be reserved for the cute-utes, not a body on frame truck...

Thanks Wiz. No, I wouldn't want anything like that. I'm in N Wi and sometimes we get a lot of snow to move. Need something good and sturdy. Do you know where I would look for a vehicle mount for the Western Ultra that would fit the Durango?

Just ran the Western Quickmatch on your truck and Western recomends that ultra-mount 7'6" midweight for it. For a used mount, you can try craigslist or ebay, or if you dont mind a little investment, contact a dealer and price out a new one. If you're looking for used, and you dont care if it's an ultramount or not, look on craigslist, ebay, or the local paper for a used complete setup.
