I got a 88 jeep cherokee with 4.0 auto. Heres what happened I didnt drive the jeep for a few weeks and the battery went down on me. It was a new battery in April of 08. Jumped drove it acroos town and it wouldnt restart. so I jumped it again to get home parked it in the drive way. Was going to put it on a trickle charge but didnt have power to to hurrican Ike. Finaaly got around to charging batt last week now the radio doesnt work and it worked before, and after the 2 jump starts. My question is does this thing have a theft lock on it or are my problems deeper then that. I left the batt hooked up when I put the charger on it to. And yes I checked the fuse.

No theft lock on Jeeps til 01 BJ there is multiy fuses that power the radio in a XJ like i tell my own guys use a test light and check them all Jeep would use some dumb power up legs in the panels alot of times fuses that didnt or shouldnt have mattered caused other things not to work sorta like overloading a circ .
You will see a few inlines under the dash one is for cruise and the other is a cluster leg up fuse.
Last but not least 88 was a carry over still a AMC vech there radios werent known for long life so of all else is checked pulled the trim bezel pull the radio and check power direct at the radio you should have two hots one always that kept clock time and one key on that powered the main if you have those just flop a aftermarket in it and call it done.

You'll have to pull the radio and check to see if you're actually getting power and the radio just coincidentally crapped out.
Here's the wiring colors for the power
Constant 12V+ Pink
Switched 12V+ Purple/Orange
Ground Black
Illumination Orange/Black
Dimmer Dark Blue/White
Antenna Trigger Gray
Just wondering, will the time display when you press the disp/clock button when the Jeep is off.

Obviously check for power and ground but it's not unusual for them to take a dump at anytime. I'm on my third Chrysler radio in my van. They are just crap. I have no more spares so the next time it goes an after market is going in. Spend a little extra money and get a plug in harness for it. Makes it so much better than trying to hard wire and easier to sneak it back out when you want to get rid of the vehicle.
