I have been eyeing an International dump with a municipal plow or road crew plow. It looks to be a 10 ft plow standing about 4 foot tall. The truck is 26000lb GVW. My question is how will this plow be in large parking lots? Has anyone here tried using one in that environment? The price looks to be rite for my budget but i'm concerned with trashing lots with such a monster plow.

If it is 2 wheel drive you won't like stopping and going . I think you might be better with a 4x4 1 ton with a 9 foot plow power angle also.:witch

I'd think that it would work just fine, if you don't plan on using it with a sander or as a sanding truck, I would see about getting a concrete block or something along that line for ballast. I would also think that a machine that size would be best if the lot was big enough for you to be able to go around and work it in strips so you don't have to back up, because most transmissions in those won't give you a very fast reverse and if it does have an splittable transmission with a high range reverse, starting in high range can be rough on the clutch, and shifting between the ranges can be destructive if not done well.

A 10' is ok, had a 1600 IH with one, but an 11' would be better. In a lot it won't bother as bad as in a road environment, but the 10 at angle barely covers your wheel when turning. FWIW.

And yes, with duallies and no front axle drive, you'll want a couple 3 mafia blocks securely secured to the tail. That and some decnt tires.

We plow with our International and it works great being only 2WD.

Couple of tips,

Lots of weight, we usually have an 8 foot v box in the back, when its full no problem, when its empty you have to be picky about what you try to plow. If we don't run the salter then 4 pour offs/Mafia blocks go in the back for weight.

Good tires, we run open shoulder tires on the back, bit noisy in the summer but great bite in the winter compared to the highway tires it used to have.

Don't hang the front end up or overanything and don't plow down any hill you have to back up to the top of.

Other then that its awesome for plowing, we have an old 10 Arctic we put a new cutting edge and a poly skin on and it pushes parking lots no problem.

Our truck is an automatic with juice brakes which makes it easier to drive then the stick shift/air but never the less a great unit to push around snow with.
