Next year I will be bidding on some seasonal commercial lots, about 1-3 acres. I was thinking of selling my tractor and buying a skidsteer or an Fiat Allis loader from a friend of mine. My question is how well does a skidsteer work pushing snow? I will also be able to use it in the summer where the loader will just sit there. Any comments from guys who use one or both would be appreciated.

I thought of the same thing loader just sits if used just for snow .A skid steer would be more of a multiy function machine as would be a backhoe .That is what I have .what do you do more of in the off season of plowing would be the question as to what you should get in my opinion or just lease a loader for the winter months if that is the only time you will use a machine .

I do lawn mowing and some landscaping. I use the tractor for lawn installs, stone driveway installs and brush hogging. I could use the skidsteer for alot of the same things. Plus my cousin just bought a new identical tractor that I have so I could rent it to brushhog. I would make more in 1 month of plowing than in 1 year of tractor work. The loader that I am looking at is a friends. He bought it on bid from a local city and uses it to putter around on the farm. He may be interested in renting it to me for the winter. Will a skid steer push snow across a lot like a loader?

Yep. It just won't push as much snow, or as far. For little 1-3 acre lots a skidder would be perfect, especially if you get a pusher or blade for it. Just make sure its not a little one.
