Chuck, or any one of the moderators, is it possible to catagorize us by State/Province? I've noticed a lot of CT guys but wonder if each one of us could be catagorized. The reason I'm asking is that although there are a few of us that I know about from the west,it might be possible that I have missed a few. I would like to get to know the other reasonably local plowers that might be on.

Yep. Start a thread with the region you want as the Thread Title. That's how we've been using the forum. Then theoretically, if a new member searches or an existing member searches, they'll find that thread & be able to reply to it. If a second or more separate threads get started we can always merge them together if needed. For example we have a NJ, PA, Long Island NY, Upstate NY,CT, etc., threads that categorize those areas.

Keep in mind you cannot search for two letter words like "NJ" or "CT". I would venture a guesstimate that almost half of the Members here do not have any location listed in their profile. That hampers things a bit.

I used to frequent a site that had a "member map" it was a pic of the US with little flags stuck for each member were they were at.....you could see if somone was close to you just by looking at the little flags and they were clicky with the details of the person. I know it would probably be a big undertaking but maybe see who wanted to be placed in a map and go at it from there(or if people could drop thier own flags.) Dont know how much of a PITA but I think it would be cool

And here I thought I had an original idea! I was thinking of making a map, but with numbers showing how many Members were from each state when you hovered your mouse over an area. Then I thought about it more, and the time it would take would make me have to sacrifice in other areas.... and like I said above, there are far too many Members here that won't even list what State they are from in their profile.

I like the idea a lot and would love to be a part of making it (but am somewhat computer illiterate). I also think that it might entice some of the quiet and shy members to participate more by giving their location so that they can be included on the map. At the same time others in their area might want to network and prompt them to participate.

How much of a PITA would it be to make a map that members could drop thier own flad or what ever on? Once you made the map i wouldnt think there would be really any upkeep on it since members would fill it out if they wished and the little flag would point to thier profile. I'm thinking having you or someone else placing each member by what they listed in thier sig would be a major pain. Maybe different colors for people open to networking or people could fill out some more contact info in thier profile instead of making a post or having to search em. If someone needed a hand they could look for one color of flag? Mostly thinking outloud since I dont know what kind of effort it would take.......Dont even know how many people would really like the idea.

www.chevelles.com is were I first saw it I believe.

And BTW if you could use a hand I would be willing to help although I'm not the brightest in the way of computers.....
