View Full Version : Too cheap to buy Fisher crank pulley?

Being the cheapskate that I am, I didn't want to pay the rumored $100 for the Fisher crank pulley for my '83 305. So I took a three groove crank pulley off of a '78 350 (AC), and only after I installed it did I notice that third groove was inside the other two, (closer to the timing cover). That means the belt, a 57", runs between the PS pulley and the PS pump casting, and it's close! About 1/8" either side. You've really got to get that pump aligned straight! I drove the truck a few miles today, but I've yet to connect the plow. I'm told that this pulley is too large, it is bigger than the Fisher. But my teeruk has low (3:o8?) gears with o/d. I feel like a kid again, playing with my first car!

One could always weld a pulley to the front of the crank pulley;), therefore making use of the vbelt.

TO power the fisher pump that came on my truck when i bought it. it ran off thr power steering pully. a two grove pully. the belt going fromt he crank to the power steering then fromt he power steering to the pump. it worked real well. I liked the system alot. Other then when lifting the plow i had to rev the engaine and i didnt like stressing the engine if i dodnt have to so i went to ele/hydro. But i just think the problem with the belt driven was that valves they where older then dirt and werent made anymore. so i gave up fixing it and $200 for a bolt on ele/hydro western pump was to good to pass up.
