View Full Version : Problems with eBay?

Last night I tried to access eBay. Instead of the "my eBay" page I got a mess of code gobbledgook and what I can only describe as a "tiled" array of copy, three layers deep. I can't check anything I was watching or get the "Contact us" link to open fully so I can write to them.

I've been getting bombarded with the "mydoom" virus in email and had it on my machine. Installed a new McAfee virus scan and it found, and claims to have removed, it.

Any computer gurus have any thoughts on this? I have restarted my machine several times to no avail. Should I clear cookies?

Alan,
Make sure your virus def's are the newest ones you can get. Then disconnect from the Internet, run the virus check, and delete all off-line stored items. You will have to re-cookie things like S_C, and Ebay but that would be the first things to try. Let us know if that helps.

BRL ran me through the process of removing junk files and szorno had more suggestions to add and the problem is still there.

Only does it on ebay, I can open any other sites I want just fine. I can't even write to them to ask if they have any hints because as I go any furhter than the opening screen it stops loading.

I'm about to call Rent-a- Geek.

Alan Check out this site. There is some useful information and they have removal tools for the MyDoom virus.
It's interesting that you can't get onto eBay though

This is probably not related to your problem, but it is a very useful tool. It scans your computer to detect and remove those nasty tracking files that get put on your computer from visiting webpages. I use it ALL the time.

Did you install a cookie blocker or an anti spam or pop up ad blocker progam ? If yes that may be your problem with ebay

YEEHAW!!!!!!!! That was it, the new Mcafee software had a spamkiller and a privacy "something" included. I de-activated them and ebay works. Now I'll re-activate them one at a time and see which one was causing the glitch.

Once again the answer came from the fine folks on this site!

If I ever meet you I'm gonna kiss you right on the lips.

Okay,, maybe not. :)

Glad you got your problem solved Alan. I wouldn't know what to do if I couldn't get onto eBay. I would panic for sure!
