With all this talk about how much salt people are using I thought it would be interesting to know the amounts people are using on a per application basis. I am reffering to a typical app and not a per storm total as that varies too much or an ice storm. I think thats a good way of seeing who uses what. Just to be clear I'm not talking about sand but just salt used in the mix.

We use 5-8 tons per app. and that is for a full run.

LOL dont laugh, the ONLY places around here that get salt are retail (Wal mart, lowes, meijer) The local gas stations, grocery stores, businesses ect do not.

So with that being said and having only 1 retail flower shop.

I go through .37 ton per storm:D

15 storms in Jan

Aprox 5.55 ton in Jan

If we apply to all of our locations 35 ton per event, 4 skids of bagged salt, and 4 skids of calcium.

we average 20 tons per event, but it has been so cold lately,it's almost double. We have spread a little over 400 tons so far this year.

Depending on temps and time of day, 45-50 tons per storm. Approx 1 pallet of sidewalk salt. We're somewhere in the neighborhood of 700 tons so far this year.

This is our first year with bulk salt, so I think we're using it a little more liberally, which is fine. Each run is 3 to 4 tons with temps over 15 or 20 degrees, post plow. I've used as much as 9 tons for one run due to cold temps and ice. 3 tons or less for an anti-ice app. To date we've used approximately 150 tons.

Approx 45 tons of rock salt. 18 tons of calcium. 15 ton of sand.
Mostly sales but a fair amount on application also.
Hey, how much can one spread with a Sear's & Roe hand spreader. Lol.

We have had 5 plowable events so far this year. 6 additional salt only runs. Total salt used so far this season 26 ton. Last weekend 10 ton was used. Might need to salt in the morning. I hope not because we only have about 2.5 ton at one location and 4 ton stored at another location that takes a while to get to. Salt is real hard to come by around here this week.

Ahh! I gotcha. Nope. No V-box here. Most of my accts don't require that much in salt application. I have always been able to make good with a hand spreader.
It has worked out for me that were salt is needed is in small areas of parking lots and sidewalks. A V-box would be nice but overkill for me.
