hey guys i have the oppertunity to get a 1991 ford mustang convertable, with the 5.0 motor in from a friend. Question is what do i look for as far problem areas? paint wise it looks good, motor does not show any leaks, top is a little torn, bt he has a new one in a box, just has to be installed, It is a auto, with all the belles and whistles, it is a lx model. he is asking 3k, but I got him down to 2500, Oh and it has 107k miles. on it.

Any imput would be appricated.

If its clean and not hacked up go for it. The 5.0 is a good motor and the Foxes are holding popularity in the market very well right now...

If you want someone to check it out with you lemme know......

Thanks Jay I was hopeing you would see this, I appricate the offer, my friend is a trusted one so he knows if he seels me junk I will not only kick his ass, But put it thru his front door!:D.

Quick question, this is going to be replacing the crown vic,it is getting up there in miles (170k) and stuff just keeps going on it, newest is a smell of oil that I cant find, then new tires, brakes, powersteerign pum is scweeling like crazy, well you get the idea. It was a former cop car and i olny owned it for the last 20 or 30k miles, before that, it was a highway patrol car so who knows what the did with it. My question is, I know it will sound stupid. But is there I lot of room in the trucks of these cars? i need it to fit my fd gear in it plus in the main part fit my fat butt in it? Stupid question and i will chekc it out more tomaroww, but i just have to ask.

I have a 02 notchback 5.0 since new has 90,000 was a daily driver till about 4 years ago. Never had a problem with it, like Jay said the 5.0 is a great motor. As far as trunk space, if your use to the CV, then you will find the trunk on the stang to be small. It is a very small trunk.

Understood but i already figured I would not fine to many cars with that big of a trunk! I mean Now I know why they use these cars for mafia movies, you could fit a small family back there! But thanks for the insite.

Trunk space is definitely limited in pretty much any of the Foxbodies or SN95, New Edge body styles...

If you land up picking this Fox up lemme know a buddy of mine local to us has quite a bit of foxbody stuff if you ever need something.

Thanks i will keep that in mind, tomarow i am calling my ins guy to see if this will raise my ins at all, not sure i thought the cv would with it being a police package, but it was suprisingly cheep. I figure they will probley bag me because of the convertablt top, kinda like a jeep wrangler type problem. Easy to break in to if they want to get in. But we will see, Plus I will work on my friend some to! :grinz

I have two Fox body GT's one convert and a hatchback both have manuel 5 speeds , i think the LX with a auto and needing a top installed not for the faint of heart, 2k is about its going price.

My 88 convert has 33k miles and tryed to sell it last year couldnt get any takers on its fair value the car still has factory paint and alot of add ons.

My 89 i put a GT40 engine in it and that car ill never get my money back on its a screamer but people would give what i have into it..

As easy has some think the top is a PITA to change on these along with top motors and qtr glass motors.

Most Foxbodys around here for sale are in decent shape i think most people opted not to drive them in the winters hence there condtion today.

Fred its interesting to hear what these are going for in different parts of the country. Up here in CT Mustangs are the hot topic and values hold pretty well.

Over the past year and a half a lot of "diamonds in the rough" have popped up around here too. Lots of low low low mile fox bodies as well as sought after 93 Cobras and even a 93 Cobra R still "in the wrapper"...

well called my ins guy, come to find out i will actully save money since the mustang is older then the cv, I thought for sure it would be more, being a 5.0 convertable and basically a sprots car, but i was surprised. Now I will just see if I can get my friend down any more! :p:p:wink

These cars were the best bang for the buck back in the day..In the late 80's early 90's the IROC which was my senior year high school car were as hot as the stang but then the stang changed in 87 and the GT was a very hot car..I had 3 of them an 87GT a 90LX then my last LX was a calypso green color with chrome pony wheels..loved that car, 4 years and never a prob and easy to work on.wanted to ad nitrous but the 93's didnt come with forged pistons..I dont think i would buy an automatic 5 litre but thats up to you. Drive both and you will see why i say that....I would check the oil pan for rot and check for sloppy shifting through the 2-3-od shifts. other than that not a bad deal but dont forget 500-800 for a top....

the 5.0s are so easy to mess around with. My Bronco first started with adding the SEFI onto the 77 302... then I wanted more and put in a FMS 347.... Now I need to rebuild the driveshafts and the C4.... Never ending...

Those 5.0s go forever too... My dad got 250-300k on each of his 5.0 town cars.. He has 250,000 on his 4.6 town car now...
