Then before I take some of my own, low and behold they're on SC (Am I the first to call it SC?) all for the sake of the number count. Now you'll just have to get your own digital:argue :

Bill,
Right after I got the truck, my girlfriend and I decided to go camping for a weekend. I was taking her up an old mining road. There's a really good view from about 12,000 feet up there. I had to chain up to get to that point and that is as far as I could get. The snow was left over from last year. I think I have another pic from a different angle showing the drift.
Almost lost the truck off the side of the road. Took about three hours but I was able to get it straightned out.

I'm happy to say that I've had ZERO problems with it, ASIDE from the obvious FSD or PMD failure that every 6.5 is notorious for, but thankfully GM made good with the extended warranty on that part and I had mine replaced last summer.

Yellow = Construction
Red/White = Police/Fire/EMS

Sno-mover, I ordered a hide-away strobe kit from a diffrent online company. The kit comes with everything(power pack, strobe tubes & cables) but alot of kits online may be a six strobe head but only come with 4 strobe tubes so you might want to look into that. Also, mine came with 15' cable, they were not long enough to run them to the strobes I put in the tail lights so you might want to get 20' cables and you can shorten them if you have to. Good luck. :drinkup

Sno-mover, a 90watt power pack is fine for a six head package. here is a link to the package I bought,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2571289343&category=36347
it's a 6 head unit but only 65watts and is as bright if not brighter than any other 90watt unit, it's because of the tubes this company uses.

Thanks for the heads up- I just have to find the time(hopefully this week) to get it swapped out. I got them from my dad who was in the reserves as a mechanic, and they don't really draw that much- I was surpised! I haven't put the new battery in yet, but with a stock alternator and those lights, my bar, and flashers on I stay right around 12 volts at an idle according to my idiot gauge. I need to install an ammeter to keep more acurate readings, but I keep an eye on the idiot gauge in the meantime(stock).

Yea Greg, it's the first time I have hooked it up since the body lift. I'm happy with it. It 'lowered' the lights, so they aren't sticking up so much in my line of sight, and the radiator is much higher above the pump now, it should get a little better air flow.
What are you talking about? That edge has lots of life left in it! I haven't decided if I'm going to run it a little this year, or if I should just swap it out now. I bought an edge, it's laying on my garage floor, you just can't see it.

Honest Mike
11-18-2003, 01:51 PM
Looks good, now go put it on! :D What size edge is that? 3/8", 1/2", or 5/8"? The stock one is 3/8". I replaced mine last year and put on a 5/8" in its place. Its much heavier and should take alot longer to wear out. Actually, by the time it needs replacing again, I "most likely" wont even have this truck anymore, haha! I would also reccomend putting on all new nuts, bolts, and lockwashers on the new edge, once you get all the old crap off. Believe it or not, all 8 of the old ones on my plow came off without breaking. I figured they would be all rusted together and wouldnt come off without cutting them or chopping them off. I guess the constant pounding of the edge hitting stuff keeps the bolts and nuts from freezing up solid together. I put a freshly oiled air gun on them, on the highest torque setting, and just gunned the throttle and they came right off! My air gun is pretty strong though. Its an Ingersoll Rand, model #2131, 1/2" drive with 650ft. lbs. of torque in reverse. Ok, I think I babbled on long enough! :D Mike :shades
JohnnyU
11-18-2003, 02:05 PM
I got all new bolts and lock nuts, plus a solenoid for free when I bought the edge. They tried giving me other stuff, like western cables and a *shudders* Meyer lift chain. They were cleaning house :D But iI had no use for either of them, and didnt think I could sell them either.
I have the same gun I think, I love it to death, never had anything that I couldn't get loose on the highest setting. I was planning to use that on these bolts as well! :drinkup

Yea, Ultimate lawns.:D Thanks for the replies guys. They are Federal signal LEDs. I bought them from a local dealer. SnowBowtie, The plow lights work awsome up top. You got to see them in person, on how well they work. I usually use the top plow lights instead of the lower plow lights because the ones on top shine out so far. I also got them hooked up to a switch for HI & LOW operation. Cnypropertysvcs, Yea, Im Happy with the chevys. Never owned one in my life since now. This will be the first year using one in the snow. 7.5' The price I got was hard to pass up. I would've spent $1700 more for the 8' one. I can live with the minor size diff. for that amount, not to mention that I don't do large commercial jobs. Two benefits: a bit less weight on the front end and a heavier wallet!:cash

Thanks Grasshopper,
I have had the same account for six years now. It's a pretty big lot but there are also some small tight areas to. Usually I have to load some snow out about 4 times a season. I have used many different truck plow combo's at that account and then hired a loader to load out snow. I got the skid loader and blizzard 810 a little over a year ago and the spreader just this week. I also have a one yard bucket to. Now I can plow, salt, and load snow with one machine. It is the most efficient set up so far that I could come up with. The Skidsteer is a Cat 246, with the two speed option. The Two Speed is the only way to go.

The skid steer only has 220 hrs on it, I used it all last winter about 175 hours plowing and loading out snow, the rest was a little digging on weekends in the summer. I work all summer as a Blaster (blowing things up) and move snow and hunt in the winter. My wife gets a little upset cause i'm pretty anal about taking care of my stuff. that truck is a 3/4 ton. the trailer has breaks on both axles.been pulling it with that truck for the past 2 years with no problems.its sometimes slow getting goin when you had to make a stop before going up a steep hill.key is to put the weight on the trailer not the truck end.ive seen guys load there bobcats right up to the front edge of the trailer.i also have electric brake controls in the truck so when im towing the bobcat i crank the trailer brakes up so when i apply the brakes the trailer brakes do 80% of the work

sorry i didn't give you the answer you were looking for.it tows just fine in the winter.the weight of the trailer never pushed the truck in turns nor has it ever fish tailed.the ride can be alittle ruff but that was before i added timbren load boosters.thats a 98 bobcat 763 its about 5600 lbs operating weight.:D

The biggest snow plow in the world is the 32-foot, 3-inch blade attached to a payloader at Han**** Airport.(Syracuse, NY) The 48-inch tall piece of steel can clear 8,500 cubic yards of snow in an hour.

Gee that couldn't be because we get so much snow in this area could it? I'll have to try and get some pics of the county plows out here- they have a belly scraper to help break through the hard pack since it snows so much and they can't keep up with it.
As we speak, I'm recharging my batteries and eating some dinner before going back out around 10 or so to hit my accounts again! I have gotten about 16-18" at my house so far total accumulation, and I'm kinda glad we might get missed by the storm- had a rough fall and I still have a ton of work to do at my house to make room to put all this white stuff!!!

JohnnyU
12-07-2003, 08:26 PM
I've been able to just jump in and teach myself very quickly. But not everyone can do that. I would definately reccomend practicing on dry pavement, or on a large open field, just so you can get the hang of it. The articulating loaders are a little akward at first, and the backhoes are a little bit difficult due to the boom in the rear, but the visibility beats a truck hands down.:notworthy

Yeah i aint sure what route i will go next year as it depends on what work i get. I want to be mobile and use whatever machine i get on other site's in the area but i dont want it to take me hours to get there.. A bobcat is fast but not as fast as a loader or backhoe. Not that i know of..
The only fields here belong to farmers or constuction co's and im sure non of them would be happy if i screw around on there fields.
A guy i do work for now has a old John Deere loader and i was in it one and i know what you mean about the way they work. I was told not to be affraid to give it gas as it will work better with more power and not as skidish or jumpy..
I'll try this year to do more hours in it when we arent in a hurry to get the lot done. Thats happens like never.
Anyone close buy have a loader or backhoe i can pratice with :grinz

We have two newer New Holland loaders and a couple old Cats where I work. They aren't hard to run I was told the basics and then went at it on my own and I'm not bad on them now loading all the trucks gauging yardage of material when loading and what not. The only thing is I always feel the tipping sensation on slight hills and it takes a while to get used to. Another thing is getting the feel for pavement is essential in order to not rip up all the pavement and manhole covers with the bucket.
On another note very nice truck. Is it lifted, if so what lift and what motor do you have?
