Hey, Quick question on tire sizes. I picked up two 265/75/16 tires for the back of the plow truck they were free cause they cant be inspected, but have good tread & M&S rated. The truck has 245/75/16 on it, will the 265s be fine just on the back for plowing, the truck does not get above 15mph while going up the road no more then a 1/2 milw? Or should I stop back at the tire place and see if I can get another two other 265s or 4 245s?

I did look it up and I think there is a 2mph diff..

4X4 vehicles need the same rolling circumference in front and rear or driveline windup (or binding) will occure. This will cause distruction of the driveline and will make it impossible, in some instances, to get the vehicle out of 4wd. It can also cause handling problems as the tire speed is different from front to back when locked in. It can get away from you real easy. Same size tires is the right way to go. Also, in some cases diff tire manufacture even with the same size tires can have a diff circumference. We see 4x4's here all the time with new tires on one end and replaceable on the other. Even this amount can cause problems.
I know what your trying to do so go and try to get the other 2 tires.

I will have to wait a few days, the reason I could only find these was becuas ethey were just put there. Once some of the snow melst on the pile this week I will stop after school and take a look thru the pile more.

If the truck was more then just a plow truck and left my back road I would buy a set of takeoff tires from them, but I don't want to do that.

Jeff, watch craiglist, we see 2 and 3 tires all the time in 265 series. Most folks are watching for sets of 4 real good ones, IMO.

I am going to stop at the tire place tomorrow after school and check the pile again. I have looked on craigslist and the two buy & sell books up here and everything close to me is to expensive. Everyone has a yard truck so alot of the ads are "Two 16" tires non-inspectable,but good for yard truck, $75". I can go to the junk yard here and get tires for $25/pc that are inspectable.

I just picked up two more 265 tires, they are Nokian the same tires I have on my diesel. The went to the pile because they might have anoly a few hundred miles left on them.

So now I just need to mount them.

Quick question,` Anyone have any tips on removal and mounting of tires at home? I waited a little long to check when I could get them mounted and it being Saturday most guys want extra per tire to mount plus most of the places close in 30 minutes. All I need is what is the best way to break the bead on the tires? I have a Porta-Power that I tried using with the frame of my truck as the stationary jack point, but I don't get a long enough stroke to compresser the tire enough to pop.

Korn, if you're interested, I've got six 245/75/16s Discoverer M&S tires I'm selling. They're off the one ton I sold. Right now, I'm using four of them on my 2500, but really need 265s. Let me know. I'm about 25 miles east of Augusta.
