Im usually in my 2001 chevy 3500 4x4 with the blizzard 810 or my 1995 ford f-350 4x4 dump with the meyers and V-box.

In real deep snow I sometimes run a backhoe or loader.

funny, the guys with the fords always the first to complimant my chevy.

Everybody has a preference...I have 2 '86 Chevys the k30 plow shown and a p30 15,000GVW step van. Never a problem with either, except for the ocasional squeel from a belt.

My last 2 out of 3 blue oval vehicles both died untimely deaths with blown tansmission, 87 F150 w/102k and broncoii with 120k...neither one even plowed. This k30 has been plowing since the day it left the lot and is straight and as you can see, clean...needed new body last year, prolly from salt...but so didn't my f150 after 8 years. I have a an explorer now also, so we will see how the newer ford engineering is. :)

Just to let you know I also was a die hard ford guy.First car was a 1969 ford mustang. In 1996 I purchased a 1997 ford f150 lariet.the leather seat started wearing after the first month.they could not replace the seat untill it had a hole in it.That happened in mid 97 they ordered the seat cover and we did not get it untill begining of 1998.

To make a long story short at the time all of the trucks in my fleet (16) were all fords.all the cars on my drive way at home were fords including a 1970 scj mustang.Anyways each time the dealer replaced a seat cover they broke something else.(the arm rest, the reclining mecanism, the power seat foward and back, then the lumbar adjustment,)I requested ford motor company to give me a new entire seat and they said absolutely NO the truck was 18month old at the time and had 24,000.miles on it

Every truck and vechicle I have purchased since that day was a GM product.I have over 32 trucks in my fleet not including sales men cars ALL GM.I also have 5 gm cars at my home I personally own.

I normally purchase 2 trucks at a time and I used to send the bill of sale's of the new trucks and registrations to all of my other gm products along with my corospondence to ford asking for a new seat to Jack Nasser(then president of ford motor car) and the only responce I ever got was when he retired I was sent a letter not to corospond with him he is no longer with ford.

thats why I will NEVER OWN A FORD AGAIN

PS

I forgot to mention the reason I have stayed with GM is because the corporation gets invoulved when there is a problem with there product to satisfy a customers needs. And as long as they continue to do that I will purchase there product.

I usually drive my 97 Dodge (aka Dozer) with a 9 footer.I have another Western with extensions that I run sometimes making it over 12 ft wide.

For salting I use two older International 5 tons, with undertailgates. They do have plows, but only get used for backup.

Sometimes for cleanup I'll drive one of the other trucks just for fun.2-77 Jimmy's and 2 91-S10's.

I have 4 loaders as well, but I try to stay out of those,I do too much damage.

Jay ALC
12-11-2004, 05:56 PM
Henry,
Both trucks are 4x4s so I don't really notice much difference other than the fact that the dually seems to actually be able to push more snow with all other factors including ballast weight being the same between the two trucks. We plow mostly larger lots, that trucks can still handle, so the dually is actually quite a good plowing machine. :)

I plow with an 85 GMC K-2500 with a 7.5' Western Pro-Plow and a stainless Western salter (yes the "old faithful" kind). I hope to move up to a newer GMC 2500 this upcoming year and am very interested in a Blizzard 810. I also just ordrered a set of wings for the Western.

snonut12
12-12-2004, 06:31 AM
rtm038, thats a nice setup. I guess you not only use it for snow, but for leaves too. :D

BTW I noticed you have yellow lift arm. I am not 100% sure, but either it was during the time when Fisher ran out of supply for silver lift arms and had to use the yellow ones. If that is the case, the dealer should be able to replace it with silver. But if the silver lift arm is a factory option, then I think that would be silly of Fisher. If that is the case, how much more would it cost for silver lift arm? If it were my plow I'd rather have a matching color. ;)

Just as a reference to the diesels being slow, I took my 06 Duramax to New England Dragway just to see what it would do. Bone Stock with 4-5K miles on it. I launched it in 4WD and it ran a 15.1@86mph, its rated at 360/650. Thats faster than than the AWD SS Chevy pickup. My buddys 04 F350 Powerstroke ran a 16.0 bone stock. Both trucks are extended cab 4x4s with single rear wheels and 6.5 foot beds. Another buddy has an F250 Crew with a V10, it can't hang anywhere near my truck performance wise. Its a nice looking truck though, Ford def got that part of it right. I probably would have bought one if they had a better drivetrain.

No stock gas truck will even come close.

I wouldn't buy a Diesel if it was just to plow with but man what a kickass drivetrain to tow and daily drive with. 18-19mpg on the highway, it will tow whatever you have as fast as you want and driving back and forth to work with it is a dream. I will never buy a Gas truck EVER, except if it were for a dedicated purpose like 4 months use to clear driveways... :rockon

I tend to find that a lot of people expect the truck to drive like a tractor and be slow or something? After they ride or drive my truck they can't believe how in the dark they were about Diesels. I know cause I used to be in that camp too... Gotta drive one to understand I guess.

i have always perfered chevys but ill drive anything that i can make money with.

my primary is a 88 chevy k1500 with an old 7.5 western cable pro-plow. i love this rig, set up and ballanced well.

my secondary (frankenstein) is a 77 k20 undercarraige with a 85 GMC cab. it pushes a 7.5 standard e-47 meyer. its not mounted right so a hard push will turn u sideways. i payed $900 runnig moving and plow mounted so i cant complain.

next is the big girl. i got a 1961 hough h90 endloader. at 32000# and 4wd this alone locked me into my first contract. planing on adding a pusher soon.

future projects are adding a 6.5 to my 99jeep cherokee. finding a 10ft western HW for my 56 chevy 6100. and the same or maybe a muni meyer for my 53 chevy 6100.

I like to play with old power. as for iron i push what i can find.
