I'am looking at getting a 1967 cat 950 loader for next to nothing. The reason its not much is because the motor is bad i dont know what happened but the stack got nocked off and i think it got water in it and hydro locked. the block is cracked and the rod is probley broke.
My question is do you think the block can be wielded and fixed or where can i find a short block or a whole used motor.
I dont want to get it if i have to spend a lot on the motor over 5000.00
Thanks Todd

Stop by a local equipment repair shop and see if one of their mechanics could check it out for you .
There are plenty of those old caterpillar loaders around, so i'm sure parts would be easy to obtain. First i'd have a mechanic look at it, just so you'd have an idea how much it would be to fix.

Todd,
I would talk to a Cat or Diesel place first... I know of a someone who had a Cat powered piece of equipment that had to have the motor rebuild ... I think he said $20k or so for the rebuild...
That would be my first thought of why the guy is getting rid of the loader for next to nothing... he does not want to put the money into the old loader....
Also since it has been a couple of weeks since you posted this.. what is the update on the loader... did you buy it.. or talk to anyone???
