Hello again out there in chevy land! I know that I have asked this question before ,but here's it goe's. I have heard that I can put in a 454 into my 78 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4,but also I've heard that theres alot involved into this operation .I heard that it's a direct bolt in and I've also heard that there's alot involed to do this .So if theres anyone out there that has done this ,or is it worth it?.Thanks for all your help into this matter :headwall olbluchevy

I dont think it would be a big job Ive put 454s in s10 pickups before. I have a 76 chevy 3/4 with a 350 and i have all the room i need in there. a 454 will drop in no prob. only new motor mounts moved up a little. other then that nothing big. I was looking at a 502 or the new 572 to drop in mine or even a cummings diesel that would be cool.

The only modification I have ever had to do to something like that is the motor mounts. I put a 454 in my father inlaws half to 76 and i just had to re fab the motor mounts. Unless it is a newer 454 then you should be good to go. It is easy, but it does take alot of patience to do it.

SBC and BBC all have the same mounts in the same place except for a few oddballs like the 307 and new generation stuff and the like. No moving forward or back ward.

Why not build a 383 stroker? They produce awsome torque and power. Also, parts are a dime a dozen and they are alot less expensive than big blocks.
