View Full Version : Plow Fine Up and Right But Slow Left...

I have an Arctic 8 foot plow on my truck that I just put on a few weeks ago. It is about 3 years old. After I installed it I drove around with it for a couple days to make sure everything works. It did good. Up, down, left and right all worked quickly.

I then took the plow and bracket off the truck. Late last week I put it all back on the truck because I wanted to change the fluid in the plow and pump. I unhooked two hoses and pumped the fluid out and while adding new fluid. I got everything hooked back up properly and moved the plow around up and down left and right for about 3 minutes. Everything worked fine and the fluid was topped up.

I left the front bracket on the truck but onhooked the plow. Today I hooked the plow back on because we could possibly get snow tomorrow. The plow goes up and to the right fast. But, when it goes left it is about half the speed.

What would cause this? Any help would be appreciated. :)

I am no expert on hydraulics, but my first thought would be some kind of blockage in the line, or a valve not opening all the way? All the motions work from the same pump, so I would check lines, and the solenoids that open and close the valves.

Quick coupler failure or failure to snap it all the way together. Would opt for failure as it's good in one direction and slow in the other. Ball couplers are famous for this.

Pin style work much better as the flow is not blocked in either direction.

Hmmmm....makes sense. I do believe I have an extra set of the couplers around...even the pin type. I will change them out and see.

Well, I changed out the couplers. I first did the driver's side and there was no difference. So, I changed out the passenger's side couplers. It got slower!

What is going on?

Put the old couplers back on, but flip flop the sides. That will eliminate the couplers if it actually is the problem.

Ya, I thought about that. Just got to figure out what ones go on what side! LOL!

Switch hoses on each side so the plow moves left when the controller right and vise versa, if it is the same then the plow side is the problem, but if its opposite then its in the pump. Or perhaps a collapsed hose

We have a winner. It ended up being one of the valves. Cost was about $100 and a bunch of frustrating time. Oh well. Fixed before the snow...that's all that matters.

Thanks guys. :)
