Well guys, im stuck between these 2 tire choices. Heres a couple pros/cons of each
BFG AT:
http://customwheel.com/custom_wheels/images/all_terrain_large.gif
Pros:
Available 295/75 for a little larger tire
3700 lb 10 ply rating for 285/75
Fully warranted where i work for any problems
Dealer pricing at 181.00 a piece for 285/75 in a 10 ply
Cons:
Everybody and their brother runs them
not overly aggressive/tough looking
pay a lot for name
Cooper Discoverer STT
http://www.cooperrehvid.ee/images/banner-5018-QYpldn8AAAEAABRKK9E.jpg
Pros:
Nice aggressive styling for our trucks
Similar tread pattern to Toyo MT
Beefy treaded sidewalls
Advanced Armor Tek 3 carcass
Cons:
Quicker wearing tread
only avail in D load range @ 3300 lbs on a 285/75 (265/75 load range E is only 3400 lbs)
Not as many size options
Louder on the road (not always a bad thing depending on driver)
Priced at 188.00 a piece with road hazard only on a 285/75
Please give me all your feedback on both tires and/or show me some other tires to look into. Would prefer pricing under 200 per tire and readily avail. tire as i need a set ASAP

What are you looking for your tire to do for you?

Well, if they're going on a stock height truck in similar to stock size, I'd go with the BFG unless you're actually muddin'. I think the BFG AT's are an excellent trade-off between good looks (not too aggressive), good all around traction, and good wear. Yes, they're a bit noisy, but it's not too bad, easy to get used to. The fact that everyone and their brother has them isn't really a bad thing, they're a good tire.

Those STT's are NOT snow plowing tires IMO...
There are other tread patterns in the Cooper line that are AWESOME snow plowing tires... The BFG A/T KO is another good performer on the list of snow plowing tires...
Due to my 18" wheels I will most likely be running BFG A/T's as my next set of tires.....

I have the BFG 285/75 load range E on my truck now. I will never buy another set. They will not balance and wear fast. I have about a year and 20k on them and can't wait to get them off. Maby I just have a bad set, but they have been balanced 4 times and still shake. The truck was smooth as silk when I drove it in the shop to get these tires, and has shaken ever since.

That seems really strange on the shaking, I mean from what I know a tire is either balanced or it isn't and even if you had to load up the weights you can balance pretty much any tire rim set-up. Something isn't right imo.
What about BFG commercial t/a's anyone running those? I run them studded and have had good performance from them on duallys.

If i had to choose bewteen those two tires hands down would be the BFG's Coopers ATR would be a better snow tire the coopers shown in your pics will not only be loud but very prone to Chopp.

BFG Commercial T/A TRACTIONs are a great snow rated tire . If your going to plow you really need a snow rated tire not an all season tire

Those STTs don't have much siping, which is what lets you go/stop on hardpack/ice. The big lugs are great for churning snow out of the way and keep the tire clawing through the deep stuff, but for 90% of your plowing, the tire is going to be running on a freshly cleared surface. However, if there is ice or hardpack underneath the snow you just plowed, you'd better have some siping to gain some traction, as those big lugs are going to do a real good bambi impression across the ice!
I have run a few sets of BFGs in the past- loved them. Made the truck feel like a tank! I'm now running Nittos, and like them well enough. They were also considerably cheaper than the BFGs, and a greater load capacity.

The coopers have a great look to them and would be great in the slush and heavy snow but like others have said BFG would a much better choice. I used to run mud terrains the first couple years and they worked ok but not at all like a good all-terrain tire plus they wear fast. Mud terrains also do poorly in the rain.
I would suggest the BFGs and they have a cheaper counterpart that somebody posted a while back but I dont remember the name.

im not going to be actually plowing with these tires, but im looking for more of an opinion of which tire you think is better for an all around tire. I do a LOT of hunting where mud and deeper snow is commonly found, in fields and crossing creeks etc. If i were plowing id probably get the cooper m/s or whatever you guys all use. Im just trying to decide which tire would be better as im split down the middle.

i am assuming this is happening on one of your dodge trucks, i wouldn't be suprised if they didn't bend one of your wheels when they changed your tires, have seen more than a couple of dodge wheels ruined by someone not knowing how to run a tire changer properly,
as far as the two tires to chose from i would go with the bf goodrich, i have the cooper st on one of my trucks and they ride rough and way to noisy, have had good luck with the goodrich before

Considering what you added then go with the Cooper but understand i think in a short period of time you are gonna hate them unless you have a good stero system:wink
I have ran off roading enduros and have taken 4 wheelers hunting to places were most would probley consider me nuts so give that the cooper would probley fair better but ill forwarn you the tires i have similar to those you have pictured the truck never leaves the property.

For a tire that looks pretty good and gets deccent wear and is a pretty good compromise for on and off road and also deccent in snow.......
I am liking my MT ATZs. Plus I like they are made in the USA like the coopers. The ATZ's are deccent priced too. Think I paid under 200 for 33x12.5 17's witch is pretty good IMO for that size. I'll probably go with another set actually. Pretty happy with thier performance thus far.

I used to do alot of hunting with hounds, which ment through mud, snow and every other god foresaking terrain trying to get in closer. I had the bfg's and they worked great.
I have seen those coopers up close, and honestly wasn't impressed by what I saw. I I was going to go with a tire like that (which I did). I would go with the good/wrangler MTR's. They look great and are a great mud tire. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Wrangler+MT%2FR (this is just quick link I found for a picture) I have ran mine 2 summers and they still have some life left in them. But they may be over $200 dont remember what I paid for them.

I HAD A SET OF THE COOPERS on a full size blazer yras ago and it seemed like they would not wear out....i think they were on the truck for like 4 years, must have been 30 thousand miles.....seemed pretty good to me for such an aggressive tire
I was very happy

I'll never buy another BFG product. On a Heavy truck they just don't seem to wear well, correct tire rotations and pressures, etc.
I have the Cooper ST's on my Chevy and they are unstoppable in snow or mud and have great dry or wet traction. I'm much happier with them than the BFG AT I had, Bridgestone Dueler M/T and Procomp Xtreme A/T. Nothing can compare.

The BFG's are a great all around tire. The other tires are a mud tire and will not last long under a 3/4 ton truck. I bet 25k and they will be done.
Try the BFG MT. My brother has about 30k on them and they still have another 10 left I think. He has a 3/4 ton HD and they are 35 12.5 17's.
I have had a few bad BF's that wouldn't balance without 5 ounces or more on them and I just swapped them out for a new one. I do my own mount and balance and breaking them down 3 or more times to minimize the weights sucks but it's worth it for tire life.

I would choose the Coopers, not those particular ones but something in the Cooper line.
I currently have a set of BFG's (by mistake, long story don't ask)and think they are way over priced for what they are.
i run cooper s/t . a friend of a friend is a distributor for cooper and sayed the stt are good mud snow but noisy the s/t are awesome i have gone through everything you throw at it even plowed a driveway in 7 inches of snow in 2wd when i forgot to shift into 4wd. cooper stt are nice tire in person and have alot of side wall protection.

I have all Cooper ATR's on my trucks and love them, They wear great and have no problems in snow or mud. I used to run BF's until the dealer talked me into Coopers and will probably never go back to BF's.
Not to bring up an old thread but wanted to put in my $.02. I have a set of those new style STT's on my truck and love them. They surprisingly wear well and are extemely quiet for what they are. Not bad in the snow, I would rate them better than the ATR's we have on other trucks, but not as good as the M+S. Those STT's are a newer style and have only been out for about two years now. The old STT's were noisy and not as great on the road.

i like the bf goodrich tires i have them on my truck and i like them
and before you buy tires you should look on tirerack.com to see if they have a different kinds of tires. plus i just bought 4 new tires on there. the price of 4 was the same price of 2 at my local walmart or bjs.
