It's time to update to the new version of quickbooks, right now we run 2003 basic. They have Pro and Premier, regular and a contractor package, what package works the best? Need something to do payroll, process payroll forms, billing, sales taxes, plus all sales tax forms, write checks, p&l, balance sheet, and easy for my accountant to figure out for tax time. Anybody have any suggestions?
Or should I switch to a different program, any suggestions?

We just upgraded in June from Q.B. 2004 pro reg. to 2007 Q.B. Pro Reg.
I don't use it for billing, use CLIP software for that, but every thing else is handled thru Q.B. I love it, really makes everything easy.
Every quarter I send my accountant the accountants back up thru e-mail and they handle all the fill out all the Government B.S. send it to me, I double check, write any checks that need to go out and I am done.
For the monthly Government B.S. I just send them reports from Q.B. and they take it from their and reconcile it with the quartly back ups.

Buy the premier version. They all have the same modules, just differ in the opening presentation screens. (You can customize all of it in the newer versions.)
We upgrade every other year.

I have 2006 Pro. I'm apparently more Dutch, I mean consumer wise, than Peter, as I wait until the support runs out at the end of 3 years then upgrade. :grinz Your accountant should be able to help out with what works best. I believe one version has job costing, which I perform through QX, so that isn't a big deal, but if I didn't have it, I would definitely go for that version.
I have QXpress for routing and scheduling, used to have CLIP, but had some issues.
OSC, how is CLIP working and what version do you have?

From what you have explained you could go with Simple Start 2008 or SImple Start Plus Pack. Pro allows you to track unbilled hours, create a business plan, create sales orders, etc. and Premier allows for change orders, tracking subcontractors, separate billing rates, etc. Do you really need the extras? Another option is to use the online edition. Remember, it is a financial software not necessarily a CRM. Using any of these will enable you to share a file or reports with your accountant.
You can try several of the products out or view tours on the Intuit site. Go here (http://quickbooks.intuit.com/product/accounting-software/small-business-financial-software.jhtml?lid=site_sub_header) and select a product. Then select "See it in action".

i love the program and able to do payroll through there too. if i can ever find someone dependalbe enough to work hard.

Mark,
I am using Visual CLIP, I really like it, works well for scheduling and billing. This was our 3rd version, I think, we have been using Clip for about 12 or 13 years.

Good to hear it works for you. I used Visual for about a year and gave up on the weekly if not daily patches and fixes. A little too unstable for me. Just wondered how it was working.

Were you having trouble and then installing patches and fixes, or were you installing the ones when they reccomended them.

Yes and yes. It was back when they went from Foxpro 2.0 to Visual or whatever the jump was. They were installing new features on almost a daily basis and not fully testing them. Then they would cause more problems from the new feature, etc, etc.

I installed one update about a year ago when I transfered the program to new computer, other than that I haven't bothered with any updates, it's running fine. I figure if it is'nt broke don't fix it, Knock on wood.:)
