Thought about buying a couple backracks for my trucks but figured I could make some a heck of a lot cheaper. Started on the first one Sunday. About three hours work. Had the square tube and made a run to the hardware store for the flat stock. Need to finish the top mount for the strobe and brackets for reverse lights and of course a little paint.

For reverse lights I'm gonna use the off-road lights from the grill. They are pretty much useless where they are at right now. I'll post some more pics when I get around to finishing it.

If I knew you were going to make me one, I wouldn't had bought one last week!!!

Looks great!!!

Make sure you leave room for brake light cut out, light bar clearance, cb antenna and any other lights or strobes.

Looks Good Chris get Ford Oval and a Chevy Bowtie for the middle section and they would be one off's:wink

With the price of steel if a guys handy theres no reason to not fabb some of these parts , havent checked in awhile but iam sure a BackRack is gotta be pushing 300 plus dollars.

Haven't had much time to work on it. I finished the strobe mount last night. It does clear the brakelight just enough yet not too high that it's gonna snag branches. It's getting heavy. Gotta rethink my mount to the bed. I was just gonna use four bolts through the front bedrail but now I think I better stretch it out to run down the sides under the toolbox to stiffen it up.

Chris, using box or c channel down the bed sides gives good holding. 2 bolts down each side and drop a piece into the bed pockets and bolt in there also.

You can do an easy bowtie by turning the one side over from the back. Jerre

Definitely run rails about a foot down the bed rails! That's one thing I always hated about my backracks is how much they move around. Especially once you get a lightbar of any significance, some backup lights and antennas on them. Because of my ladder needs, I'm using a trac rac, although it doesn't protect the rear window, it's very sturdy and doesn't move at all!
