snow problem

I know some of you plow with Jeep Cherokee's and I was wondering you guys still have them. What problems, if any have you had, ie. overheating, not enough traction in wet heavy snow etc.

We have a 99 Cherokee Sport, and there haven't been any problem to speak of with using it to plow. This thread (http://letstalksnow.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11616) discusses the heater core problems, but that might have happened even if it didn't have a plow.

I'll put about six 50 lb bags of salt in the back, and it does just fine driving and pushing. It does have a good aggresive snow tire tread on all four wheels though.

With only a 6.5 blade on it, it's not good for big lots, but for tight spots, it's a real pleasure to use.

On edit: Now that I think about it, we had to have a power steering line replaced a couple of seasons ago.

Also, this is Pittsburgh. We haven't plowed that many times in the past few years...

My pops still runs our 96' Cherokee 4.0L auto every winter with a 6.5' Western Uni on it... Its still a low mileage truck for its age and in great shape...

Plows like a champ. 3 5gal buckets of sand/salt mix in the back and it runs like a champ...

Great little manueverable driveway/sidewalk vehicles IMO...

I plow with my 98 Classic and its great. The only problem I've run into is that with a lot of snow you have to watch the build-up around the grille but if you watch the gauges you're fine. I run with the window down and heater on full blast and it doesn't get above 210.

Concerning traction, I have 200 lbs of tubesand in the back and its a tank in deep snow. Definitely runs better in snow than my Wrangler did :D

Of beat,10-12 years ago I had a Jeep Comanche that had a seven foot bed, long wheel base for a jeep, 5 speed, and a 6.5 blade. One of high rollers of larger snow Co in area at that time told me once after watching me plow with it " man that thing plows more snow smoother than my bosses F150". I just kind of blew the coment off, but I was thinking mostly the driver in knowing the equipment. :wink
But it was a fun truck, and could move alot of snow for such a small rig..
Sold it to a guy from Sanilac up near the thumb for more than I paid for it and had into it. Always happens, if I sell a truck someone far away takes it then I never see it again

I'd love to find a nice 4x4 comanche to put a plow on! It would be a nice addition to my current fleet! Does Anyone have any pictures of their cherokee's or comanche's with plows?

I snapped a shot of my pop's plowing with the 96' Cherokee with me this last storm.

I don't know if you are willing to travel for one but this one will most likely be going up for sale sometime this year...

We have a 96 Grand Cherokee with a 720 blizzard on it.
I will take some pics.
Plows great, no traction issues at all. Great plow rig

Got Snow?
12-28-2009, 06:34 PM
funny i came here with the same question. i think i going forward with a plow for my '97 cherokee. Leaning to the blizzard 680/720, seeing as they are one of the only mfg's still making mounts and i run 2 other blizzards. i can get a 680 for $2800 or a 720 for $3300. any opninions? i like the 720, but may be cheaper to run the 680 w/ wings?

was into the snow way 22 but it seems they don't offer a mount. anyone know how involved it would be to fab up or alter an existing mount?

Our 95 has a 720 and pushes it fine. I see I owe some pics to you guys.
Took a hell of ride with it last snow storm and it keeps on pushing.

hey dino quick question:
does the 720 cover the rear tire track at full turn? if so you think the 680 will?
want to buy a plow tomorrow...thanks for your reply.
