Need help selecting a new machine. Looking for a machine that can run a 12ft protech. Never purchased anything this large to push snow with, always used subs in the past. Have to transport the unit, between two sites each storm. Sites are about 1.5 miles apart, so I'm looking for something to travel over 10 miles per hour. Thoughts so far
1. 4X4 bachoe
2. Wheel loader
3. Farm tractor
Have no idea about brands or size of machine I need. Would like some advice.

don't forget to look at the fold out protech. you won't be able to road a 12footer, or leave one at each site.....
I would look at the Terex backhoes, and also the jcb loadalls.

new holland ts 110 w/loader
kubota 115 w/loader
volvo l50
cat it18
All these machines should push fine.the two tractors will handle up to 16' , but you should add some counter for best traction. I would get the tractors if you have some bigger brush hog, harley raking or a farmer in the family.
Use a loader if can lease out in the of season.

I know of someone who is selling a Case 580. :wink
Give FirstClass a PM, he picked one up that he was going to resell.

Thanks Mark, sent him a PM. I'm thinking of putting a back blade on it like your JCB. Did ebling rig that system up for you.

Yes, he did.
For a 12' you could even look at the mini wheel loaders, they should work fine as long as the pushes don't get too long.
From what I've seen at Ebling of the NH's and Kubotas, what potato chip listed I think you could go bigger on the pusher if you want. I know the L50 would be plenty big enough, bet you could almost get away with a Backhoe 16 model if you wanted.
For pushers, size and roading it depends on how far and where you are. As long as you keep it reasonable, you shouldn't have any problems going down the road. The only guys I've heard of that have been stopped have been running an 18'+ at 8:00AM in rush hour or something. Or not well lit at night. Use your head and you'll be more than fine with a 12 on the road.
The other thing is, a folding costs approx 2X a straight model. So you can get 2 pushers and if you add work in the future, you're potentially ready for it.
Don't forget about Daniels' wing plows either, costs as much as a folding, but they are more versatile. All depends on your needs, they both have their place.

Talk to your local PD about running down the road. In my town, we don't mess with anyone running down the road, but then again they only do it in the middle of the night, no early moring or late afternoon runs. Should not be a problem with you doing the road travel though, especially at that distance. We have one contractor in town that takes his loader and 16 foot push box from one end of town to the other, but again, this is in the middle of the night, and he has never been hassled.

A wing plow might work good. It's for the site I need your help with. So maybe when I get everything squared away on the contract, I will give you a ring, and then we can figure out a game plan.
