I 'm looking to install a used/wasted oil furnace in my garage. Since I have a s**t load of used oil to send away each year and I have to pay for my heating, I thought that can be a good idea???:huh :cash My shop is around 1250 sq feet by 16'. I'm looking at different model (bellow), the models around 140000 btu. So you guys have any comments on that kind of product. Oh, buy the way, have a look at the video in the first link, I found it very interesting.:wink
Thanks,
J.F.

Our clean burn furnace in the shop is 16 years old still going strong. Burns a gallon of oil per hour and as long as you have it serviced every year it runs pretty much trouble free. But get bad oil with junk in it and its a fight to the death.

the company i work for has three shops and we have reznor waste oil furnance at all three, one thing that is nice about them is the supply their own air so you don;t have to leave the shops air compressor on when you aren't there, of course there is a couple differant sizes but the one at the shop i work out is supposed to run 1.8 hrs on a gallon of oil

In our state you have to know what you have in oil. The flue must not give out to much dark smoke. If you generate that much waste oil that is ok but if you have to truck in oil you must know what you are getting.

An oil change shop collects the oil and sells it. Uses the money from selling of the used oil to pay the natural gas bill. That way the EPA didnt get involved in their business.

The idea of waste oil heater is great... until the government got involved in our state.

Tanks guys for your opinion. Very appreciate! I think I'll go with the clean burn one because I found a dealer/parts store not too far, so for parts & service it will be more useful. I do generate about 250 to 300 gallons of used crankcase oil at my place. But this is not my full time job, I work full time in a GM dealership where i can get the extra oil needed. I talk to my boss about it and he is glade if I can take some oil , since he have to pay to get rid of it.

Just curious how you made-out with your used oil furnace purchase? What did you end-up buying and is it working ok? Would you recommend it?

Just a couple helpful hints, have used one for 8 years. Strain your oil and DONT put gear oil in it...it has some graphite in it. They need to be cleaned. They also like to run above 60 degrees. Auto tranny fluid is best. Have also cut 300 gals with 15 gals of kero. No antifreeze either........

I own a Pennzoil 10 minute oil change center and we have two 250,000 BTU Clean Burns that are 6 years old and they do a GREAT job and have saved me $$$$$$$$. I would not buy any other brand, JMO.

Kind of a urgent type question since so many of you tend to find stuff on the internet way better than me.

Heres the deal Jerre not only fixes plows hes not to bad with Waste oil furnces either:wink.

The Midas building iam buying has a CB3500 Cleanburn system the guy that rented from the seller said it didnt work well since i was lucky to inspect the bulding all weekend i had to see why this furnace wouldnt work, theres close to `1500 gallons of oil in the building heres the deal i have serached high and low for someone who sells parts besides a dealer . The air soloiend which looks much like a valve in a meyer pump has a siezed check valve causing air to pass thru the manifold, it uses a AC coil Vs a DC coil but the coil is fine there was no water trap on the supply line to the furnace and the valve seized i got it freeed up but its so pitted it wont seal on the seat surface causing no air which means no oil pump i jumped the pump and know thats working. Anybody have any place they know of that sells aftermarket parts ,,, me and J tryed to find one in a grainger book but there not the same, i would like to try and see if i can make this thing heat before wensday has it will be a price deduction if it has more problems.

TY Mike i seen theres but there not open found a site like a Snow plow parts style web page that shows inventory and even though they showed up in the browser they dont have CB parts, however cool find thought for my rentals and there gas fired furance parts.

I only remember the first Clean Burns we had at the dealer when i worked there seemed there was always something else they needed, when i had the CB's installed at the new shop i went on a maint agreement however got the boot before they ever screwed up:witch:D.

The building already needs 5 10fters and one 16 ft garage door i want to switch out the old 8ft lighting to the new T-4's so my list of repairs is getting big was kinda hoping to get that furnace fired before wensday. The shop has three Resinor hanging units that have I LOVE NATURAL GAS written all over them so having the CB working would be a big bonus.

Another cool thing about this one is it has the Recycle station which means the furnace sets on top of a 250 gal tank with oil filter drain pans and also the oil pump is mounted closer this way along with the heating unit for the oil.

I don't know if they deal with waste oil systems, but my local industrial HVAC supplier was able to order me a pump for my gigantic space heater. The pump is only made for that particular unit and the parent company has been out of business for at least a dozen years.

Might want to try to give them a call
