I'm three for four this year trapping moles. These turf terrorists have been living the good life far too long. Eating precious earthworms and tearing up sod will not stand. I've been getting revenge. Never had this good of luck. I think I've figured out the best method of trapping. I use choke style traps and set them in soil where there is no sod and is soft from them churning it. I don't disturb the soil except for the wires when they pass through the tunnel. I don't use a shovel or even touch the soil with my hands. And I do it quickly. Before I would use a small handshovel to make slits for the wires and also pack some of the tunnel to see if the mole was active. I think this spooked them a little. If the trap isnt' sprung within a day or two I move it to a new active tunnel. It that doesn't work I break out two more traps and create a "triangle of death." They don't stand a chance. I charge my customers per mole but it's not much. The satisfaction of the kill is payment enough. I usually bag the eastern but I'm working on the larger star mole. They dig deep though. Never slayed one but if I do it's going to the taxidermist. lol.
How about a few pics of your secret wepon? I'd like to try something like that out.

Wish it were that easy. Earthworms are their favorite food.

I got another. It had been in the trap for about a week. Smelled great.
I have a customer with a brand new lawn. I've only cut it three times. Heavy mole damage already. Lawn is located in an area where moles have always been a problem in years past. I'm gonna set traps and look into applying liquid fence. I think that in this situation a deterrent would be a good idea along with traps. Anyone ever use it?

Why not just use a bait??? That is waht I use and I have neven had to go back messing with dead anything. Unless you just like seeing the thing you kill. I rather never come close to the varment ever. Just touching the bait alone is dangerous enough.
Great story though.

Never used bait. You're right. It is pricy. I saw some at tractor supply and it was $9 for only a few worms IIRC. Traps are cheap and lately have proved very effective for me. I'll likely buy some just to try though. Like I stated in the previous post, I have serious problem in a lawn where a customer just spent a lot of money to re-establish his lawn and it will need a full court press. I've killed moles in the lawn next door over the years and it is an ongoing problem. That's why I think a deterrent would be a good method. I've used mole-med in the past with poor results. The guys at lesco recomended liquid fence. Guaranteed or your money back. We'll see about that...
