Dad's Buick is finally on to its second problem... (not bad for a 7 year old car) The driver's power window suddenly stopped working.
Anyone know how the switch pops out without damaging anything?
Is the switch the common failure part? There was no warning signs of failure...
The driver's window in my wife's 2000 Buick LeSabre has the same problem. I'm assuming it's a short, cause it starts working again pretty soon. I'm thinking it might be a switch problem. The passenger side has done the same thing but not as much. It's been happening for a couple years and doesn't last more than a day or two. Then it'll be fine for several months and go out for a day or so.
Have you tried looking for a diagnostic or repair manual online?

Couple of problems with the LS and Park ave, the master switch 'drivers door' has a built in circt breaker along with the motor itself, both are suspect has both have been a problem, try holding the switch down and tapping the lower door panel the motor gets a worn spot in the arm, and acts just like a bad starter motor if this works try not running the window all the way up to the top of the seal this allows the motor to stop in a diff spot.
Unfort i have seen more motor failures than switches, the switch panel is best removed ith a small pocket screw driver it have pop clips that hold it to the door panel.
Fred, I just realized something. When I said the passenger side went out, it was when we'd try putting it down from the driver's side. So could the driver side motor be affecting that, too?

Mick,
You might want to loosen the rubber boot from the door jamb to the drivers door and take a look at the wires. The constant flexing for the past 7 years could have them starting to break / short on something. Can't hurt to take a look.

Thanks for the responses. Tapping/banging on the door panel doesn't seem to make any difference. Window worked flawlessly until it suddenly quit, never any signs of strain or drag, thats why I am leaning towards a broken switch.
Haven't really gotten into it yet.
