John is the cold air making you think of somewhere warm? You might want to look into a cruise. They are sailing out of NY and Baltimore now. Me and my family just came back from one. It's all inclusive except for drinks. I put on 10lbs, but lots of activities for kids. I went on Royal Carri. I have been on there Voyager ship and Explorer ship. Just a idea. The prices are great as the cruise industry is still in a little slump.

We are going to the Dominican this fall. My wife has been looking inot it and its supposed to be less busy that the major destination spots and just as nice. It may be a place you want to research as a destination.

Cardoctor, I was thinking along the same lines as River Hill. My wife and I have done 3 cruises and love them. It is all inclusive, except for alcohol (not sure if you are a big drinker or not), and on Carnival cruises, there were lots of things for the kids to do. They have something called Camp Carnival where the kids are off doing activities all day (they are supervised).
We didn't feel trapped in one place, on our last trip (our honeymoon) we saw St. Thomas, Barbados, Martinique, and Aruba. Just something to consider.

I had 6 friends that went to medical school in Domenican Republic. From what they told me, I would not go there over one of the other islands for a vacation......

Jamaica is nice, but talk to someone that has been there. It has it's not-so-nice areas too......

Why not Chuck? We haven't bought tickets yet, so I'd love to know of any negatives about the place.

JOHN........I have been just about everywhere !

Jamaica is ok...A Philly bud of mine owns a home there.

If your staying put at a resort no problem.
But if your off site be prepaired for poor folks esp. little
kids BEGGING for money or trying to sell you a piece of
candy for a nickle.
Or even trying to sell you DRUGS...then telling the cops!
My 16 yo Philly cousin got popped in Jamaica for that
a couple years back !!!! Dumb kid...He was warned !

I have experienced the same in the Bahamas, Cancun,
Cosumel (spl) , TJ mex. etc. Quite the bum out !

A Disney cruise is the BEST bet esp. if you have kids...
Lots of stuff to keep them busy and out of your hair !!!!

A few years back my whole crew would go on one every
winter when the kids were little ! Mom, Dad, granny, aunts, uncles, ALL the little ones too ! Had a riot !!!!!!!!

Now it sucks...they is all teenagers and won't be seen
with ya! So we just go to VEGAS or Daytona instead
and leave them home ! LOL.............geo

Go with the cruise. I've been on 7 cruises. With and without the kids. Royal Carribean has a great kids program for young preschool kids all the way to teens. After the first day we only saw the kids a t bedtime and in the morning. They couldnt wait to get to "Kids Connection". The last ship, "Explorer of the Seas" had 14 different bars, so I was happy from morning to night!

The Dominican is a great place to go. I went there for two weeks in December with some friends. All I can say is it's a blast, it's cheap, and it fun for all ages. I got two weeks at a four star resort all inclusive for $1500 Cdn, you can't go wrong with that. We stayed in a town called Cabarete and it was fine. I would DEFINITLY go back.

One more vote for the cruise. Specially Royal Carribean. We took a cruise to the western Carribean on the Voyager summer before last. All 6 of us. Kids from 12-20. Had a super blast. Actually got oldest son in coat and tie for more than one meal because it was sooooo good. Great stuff on the ship for the 12-16 year old set. My kids were too old for the kids program but it looked pretty good. Email for suggestions in ports. :shades

Chris, that is sneaky.

I go to Jamaica every spring. The wife and I love it. I don't think there is enough there to keep the kids happy. I don't do cruise ships. Just not my thing. I can fly to where I want to go cheaper all inclusive including alcohol. But some like cruises. Domican is great for a single or couple not sure if I would want to take kids their either. Bermuda is nice, children friendly, and exspensive.
