the stainless steel sleeve came loose on one of my spreaders can i run with out it, or do i have to have it in there??

I think its purpose is to protect the plastic opening should there be a jam? So if you're using nice salt, I'd say you could run it til you get it fixed. The only problem then would be that the opening would now be larger, so there will be salt falling through the opening constantly, instead of being augered out.
