OK guys (and gals), I talked to Chuck a bit about this and he suggested I post a messsage here to let you know about the landscaping forums we host at our site. Here (http://forums.gardensare.com) it is.
STOP
Before you click the link, see what you see, and head back let me tell you what it is, what we are doing, and how I am hoping it will help. At that point, if it doesn't seem to be of use to you let me know why. I can't improve things without knowing.
Yes, it says organic. An evil word in some parts. The forums were originally set up for a training program a few years ago here in the Northeast. Municipalities, contractors, tree huggers, etc attend the program for a couple weeks during the winter. My understanding is there have been something like 750 graduates so far, maybe more but I digress.
I opened the forums to the public a while back thinking contractors (and DIY's) might want an organic landscaping forum. Notice I am focusing on "landscaping" and not "gardening" (there are lots of them out there). We are trying to do similar to what Chuck has done and provide quality information on a specific market, build community and have fun doing it — it's still fun isn't it Chuck?. The introduction page (http://www.gardensare.com/forums.html) summarizes somewhat.
I spend quite a bit of time working with researchers on finding and testing new products and techniques with an emphasis on organics. Look, it is a business and we need the best options available (in this case natural and organic). We just want proof and want to share proof that a product or technique works. There is no problem showing proof that something does or does not work. Again, much like here.
Does it apply to anyone or everyone? I think so, yes. If IPM or PHC is something you do we should talk (in the forums). You would be suprised how it all fits together. Are we trying to endanger the livelyhood (that might be too strong a term) of "traditional" businesses? On the one hand, (the one that says I want a successful business—what can I say, I am competitive) yes. On the other hand and more in line with what I do. I want to see others be successful and we're providing another tool to do just that.
Oh, there was my fuzzy moment for the day. Gotta go get the troups ready.
