What's going on out there on the east coast? All the press you guys are getting, you'd think there was another ice age starting or something!! a low of -20? ooooOOOOOOOoooo!! If we don't get -30 at least a couple times in a winter, it doesn't feel like MN anymore. Nobody mentioned it on the national news when we had -20s last week. What a bunch of frontwipers!!

By the way, where's all the chatter about global warming from the leftstream media?!???

I think the coverage is pretty ridiculous myself. Whenever we have a weather event of any kind, they send a reporter out to stand in the middle of it for a broadcast. It could be torrential rain, a hurricane, nor'easter, or this week sub zero temps, there's joe reporter standing out in the middle of it.

If you ask me, the reporters seem to be a little shy in the intelligence department, I stay inside when the weather's that bad. It almost seems that they think we'd never know the weather was bad if they didn't do their "on location" report!:beatsme

yeah pelican, you're right, but don't forget all the gawkers that have to mug for the camera's !!!!!

I damn near hit a jogger this morning. between 5:00 am and this post time, Im driving down a main state road, and all of a sudden here is a woman in a white jacket, white hate and black spandex pants and white sneakers or running shoes running on my side of the road TOWARDS me.

Now there was just as much snow on the sidewalk apron as there was where she was running.... Makes no :headwall  :fuming :soapbox omg sense at all.

Deer have better sense !

oh BTW about 4 inches here and still coming down lightly... hit all my accounts and will clean up as soon as it stops ... at least everyone can get to work and school. now when everything stops, I go clear up the residentials where they parked their cars and later I go check the commercials once more.:cash :cash

One of the stations a couple weeks ago had one of their morons out on Peach Street (basically the main drag of the "shopping district") he's standing there by the side of the road and says you can see the snow's piling up, then proceeds to walk out into traffic to pick at the snow with his hand.

Well, as pelican and following replied, I was referring more to your media coverage than the residents being pantywaists. I'm just getting REAL SICK of seeing how :wah cold it is out east. If the records can be broken that *easily*, you needed better records!!

A tip... for you diesel boys- if you gotta plow tomorrow, just lock the doors and let'er run!!

Respectfully yours,

Really, everything is relative. I was stationed in the Southern part of Louisiana about 25 years ago. They got thier first snow in like 40 years. Temps got to around 30F. Several people froze to death in thier homes. They weren't used to it and many houses didn't have any source of heat. They simply didn't know what to do.

I agree with the coverage being a little ridiculous. It's actually kind of funny cuz where I live if you go 3-4 mile south the weather is totally different- the temps are usually any where from 5-15 degrees colder, and we usually end up with 2-6 inches more snow. I guess that's the difference between woods and farm fields- I live in the woods, and when you hit the main drag going through town its pretty open. I just start the truck on a regular basis and let it run to keep the engine warm, make sure the ram is all the way down so that most of the fluid is in the resivoir under the hood, and watch the radar- lake effect really likes my area- we are the perfect distance from the lake and get dropped on regularly when the wind blows. It's also usually a narrow band that is about 1-6 miles wide that goes right through here. That is why we get 200"+ every year.

Supposed to be minus 12 in the AM . They are closing schools state wide . Waiting to see mine on the list :D . I suppose they could have school but then again I personally saw 6 kids enter the building without coats this morning .... minus 5 degrees . Thats to much liablity for the school to have to defend themselves against . CLos'em up for a 4 day weekend

Right now its -2 with wind gusts to 34 mph. Most of the schools in connecticut have been closed today not cause of snow but the cold temps.

What's odd about the cold is that usually when it's below zero, it's sunny and blue sky. This week it's been blowing and snowing constantly. Huge drifts to deal with this morning. Been keeping the neighbor's driveway open while they are in Florida; the snow in the drifts stopped me dead in my tracks on the first pass through. Will have to fire up the tractor today and blow back some of the piles.

That's exactly why it's cold! When an artic front moves in, it pushes all other systems out resulting in clear skies. Overcast skies tend to "insulate" the earth, holding a little bit of heat and helping keep temperatures stable.

You made Weather Center on TWC. That's broadcast nationally! You can keep it. Got down to zero with -25 WC one night that week that you posted this thread. Became my record for coldest day of plowing & salting. I hope to never break that record!

I think the reason for all the hype with the East coast is this.........When the East coast shuts down the WORLD shuts down....Just my humble East coast opinion:cool:

Touche Pelican!

But I still say being a wimp about extreme cold way below the norm for your area is better than being a wimp about having a big dump of beautiful snow more than norm for your area to push! :grinz

Minnesota's cold made the TWC headlines again today! So hopefully EZSnow is now starting to feel a little less jealous of our newsworthiness over here. :p

Zero is the coldest, that's nothing.:D Ten years ago it was -22 with a windchill of -51. I can still remember that day. I think it took me 10 minutes to get dressed in my truck before I got out to shovel.

OK you folks from the Great White North are missing the point here. You chose to live where that can & does happen and we weenies chose to live where that doesn't happen.

I've gotten pretty used to the single digit & low teen temps that we've had for lows the past few weeks now. It's funny to see how many less layers I'm putting on at 4:00 AM than 2 weeks ago for the salt runs. However, yesterday's run really put a hurting on my ears at one point while loading salt. I hadn't realized the wind chill was 10 -15 below until I heard it on the radio a little while later. :wah

Ahhh... Finally gonna get above freezing again tomorrow. How nice to be back close to our average high of 38 for this time of year. :grinz

I know what you mean Bill. I've been wearing a T-shirt, long sleeve shirt pants and boots if i'm only running from truck to inside or only going to be out for a couple minutes. I'll throw a hat on if I'm going to be out for a little bit, with a coat or heavy sweatshirt.

I wouldn't have it any other way. I wish we were this cold from December to end of Feb and then 20's for Nov and March.
