im switching a 3.8 v6 out of a 86 buick lesabre and sticking it into a 1986 olds 88 which has a 3.0 v6 . the question is i got ,the 3.8 is in the olds frame bolted right up. except the intake manifold plenum, fuel rails are mounted different and the wiring in the olds 88 does not have a pig tail for the cam sensor only the crank sensor, can i switch intake manifold and fuel rail assembly from the 3.0 to the 3.8 and can i forget hooking up the cam sensor or do i need to get :huh the wiring harness from the 3.8 in the lesabre. the lesabre has 3 times the wiring than the olds has. a little help please. this looked like a straigh forward swap with some swaping of parts

This is not an easy swap,as nothing is compatible. If you want to use the 3.8,you need to swap the harness and ECM.

Like Chris said two diff setups the 3.0 syec's cam threw crank sensor , You need all wiring from the 3.8 and ecm to make this work . In 86 a 3.8 wont run without a cam sensor signal wasnt til 88 they counterbal the 3800 and made it with a cam sensor they the engine would default from Sqeu inject to tuned with out the cam sensor ie missing cam magnet.

Its a very doable swap since you have both cars there both H bodys however you will need to pull bulkhead ecm harness , ecm, and all engine wiring from the LS to make it work.
