Gary Gray posted a map for tonight's snow showers. Looks like some in New England will get to plow & others will get to salt at least. Good luck!

Yeah, I'm starting to feel the need to move further north. Gonna grab my fishing pole and see if I can't hook into that front and pull it a little further south. :p

YES!! I caught it a little. Just have to reel a little harder now! Maybe I'll cast my rod again and see if I can't get it hooked a little better, and pull it more southward. Gotta get LI in at least the green. :p

Does not appear to have turned into a big storm for lower fairfield county Connecticut. We're in the 1-2" range, and from reading other forecasts, it seems as though 1" is about all we will get.

If i know there is a storm coming i check quite a few sources. First i check the local news nbc 30 and wtnh 8..then i check www.weather.com and www.accuweather.com they have a 15 day forecast. I find weather.com is usually one of the quickest to post watches and warnings to your specific area.

76,
Your forecasts are generated from the NY City NWS office here:
http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/okx/

Here is the more public & pretty type cast they put out for your area:
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/forecasts/CTZ009.php?warncounty=CTC001&city=Norwalk

And Norwalk is in Zone CT009 if you want to check the cast in this style:

I got the plows on and my sander filled today.Id rather be safe then have to hook them up in the snow.Plus is supposed to get very cold again. If i dont use the sand it looks like there will be more chances this week to use it.

Started snowing a few minutes ago & covering fast! Man its sweet to finally see that again. :cash The old beater started right up on the first try today which surprised me. Hadn't fired her up since before the cold spell. Salter ready & loosened up some of the salt that was frozen like concrete in the bed LOL. Threw the plow on the other truck just in case. I'd rather do it then than 3:30 AM. Wed night real snow on tap for this area! Nice of Mother Nature to remember its winter!!

Well we ended up with a dusting & it got a little breezy. So some of the lots were blown mostly clean, the more sheltered lots were lightly covered, not even measurable. But wher there was snow on the lots, it was slippery, especially where vehicle tracks or walking tracks compacted the snow into the cold pavements. So we got a partial salting at least. Now to get ready for plowing mid week!

Based on paponte's post, sounds like some areas at least got some plowable snows. Nice!!

I got anywhere from 4-6" in my area and it's still coming down now- a little lake effect. It's supposed to stop for a while and then start up with squalls this afternoon in my area- all lake effect!

Yeah we got between 2-3". It was a little tease, but hey... it's work. Didn't get to do everyone, but some trigger at 2". Hey, it sure beats sitting home.

We got about 1" maybe alittle more. I went and plowed my custormed just because of the real cold weather and it frezzing and then plowing it the nexted storm. Will be a little hard on equipment. I didnt plow my customer with gravel thought.
I hope thursday will be a more eventful one.

We got 2", for me that meant 2 customers calling asking to be plowed even though it didnt hit the 3" trigger. We need REAL snow :(

We ended up with about 3" of snow. Got to plow all customers. Bad timing though, ended exactly at 5am, big rush to get everything done but we did it.

well I have decided that next year all contracts will have a 1" trigger. I have always used 2" on residential, but decided that I am losing too much revenue. Most residentials don't want salt, so I can't even make money with salt runds on them, only on commercials (which have a 1" trigger).

I am tired of losing revenue on these 1" - 1-1/2" storms.

:(

Jeff, I agree. I've been trying to figure how to generate revenue with all these 1" and "skifftings". I'm not even getting the sanding businesss this year. Can't get them to go for a lower trigger as I'm having a hard enough time at 3". My one big account from last year bought a big mobile home and an F250 and left Jan 4th to go traveling for the rest of the winter:( . I've only plowed twice this year - Dec 7th & 14th.

JCurtis

Mick, those are the same storms I plowed.

I Guess I could have gone out yesterday and plowed the 1.5" but since the trigger is 2" contractually and it was getting into the mid to upper 30's yesterday and today I honestly felt as if I would be gouging my good customers.

I also did'nt feel like hearing the " there wasn't enought snow to plow argument" from them.

Only had one customer who called yesterday in response to a letter I sent him. He informed me that I knocked several belgian blocks loose during the last storm. I went up and checked it out. and sure enough there were 4 loose, but they were improperly installed. I told him as much in writing, but also told him I would repair them. I was also letting him know that I will be adding services ( such as installing belgian blocks) in the spring. Who knows maybe I can get the job to PROPERLY INSTALL his begium block along his driveway.:cash :cash payup

I also did'nt feel like hearing the " there wasn't enought snow to plow argument" from them.

That's what guys around here were saying to me when I went out tuesday. My responce to the customers would be "well I didn't want to hear, the someone slipped and fell arguement".

I don't currently own a sander, but am in the process of getting one. That's why I went out and pushed, then threw down some calcium on the walks. The temp is supposed to drop again tonight, then more snow is expected tomorrow. I just feel that if I wouldn't have gone out it would have froze, then more snow would be ontop of that ice.

If I did have a sander, majority of the lots would have just been pre treated then salted. I believe that would have been effective enough.

Where are you from paponte?

I don't think you quite understand what I am saying. I have contracts that quite simply call for plowing starting at 2".

We had 1.5" accumulation. The customers I am referring too are residential customers who do not want Icemelt applied. My commercial were done, because they have a lower trigger.

For me to plow these accounts or to go apply de icing material would have been a serious breach of contract.

Technically, they would not have to pay me for any services rendered that were not specificed in the contract. That is why I said I will be changing my trigger amounts in next years contracts.

I would have rather not plowed and not get paid than plow and not get paid!

Business is a learning process, I will be adapting my business practices, policies and proceduresto better my revenue for next year.

Yeah I hear that one. I am from Long Island, N.Y. Residentials are funny like that. Most of them don't want to pay for anything unless that can't get out of their driveway. Commercials see it as access, but more for insurance. High traffic places such as banks, or shopping centers tend to need more attention due to liability purposes.
