My wife and I just ordered one figured we'd upgrade from her 99 Cherokee and get something with the Latch system and airbags all over since we have a baby due in September.
The price was right coming in close to 21k for a brand new mostly loaded 4x4 (mostly loaded since you can't get a Limited with cloth seats and we didn't want leather so we settled for the Sport)
So to make a short question long (even though it's too late) anybody have any thoughts on the 2.4 liter CVT transmission combo.
I'll make sure to post some pics when it comes in supposedly 4 to 6 weeks.

Festerw,If You want to know what that combo drives like,Go drive a Jeep Compass LTD or Dodge Caliber RT.They use that combo. It operates a little differantly than a regular auto trans.Rob.PS I work at a Jeep dealer (NewCar PDI)and have driven many Compass and Calibers.:D

Rob, the Jeep dealer here has two of the Patriots on the lot which I took for a joy ride last week, that 2.4 has some pretty good kick I was expecting less.
I was just wondering if anyone has heard any horror stories about the CVT combo.

Well we picked one up last Wednesday, not the one we ordered because someone was impatient:grinz . This one came in with pretty much all of the options we wanted plus the fancy wheels and built in sat radio. So far we're happy drives great and handles better than I expected. It is definitely more refined than the Cherokees and the 2.4 CVT combo is great although it takes some getting used to. Overall not too shabby for 24k.

Nice trucklet. First baby? Did you test fit the car seats before buying it? We found in our explorer that the rear facing car seat had to be installed in the middle or the front passengers legs are crammed into the dash. Even the new explorers we felt were a little tight getting the munchkin in and out, we "settled" on an Expedition and love it.
Just curious, why cloth? My wife traditionally hated leather, but when we figured out how much easier the kids messes were to clean off of leather than cloth, she had to have leather.

We borrowed a car seat from my sister to test fit so we were thinking. She didn't like how cold the leather was and it has the YES Essentials seats which are apparently fairly stain proof, either way we've got the dog to make a mess of them to try them out, LOL. I can tell you already that the dog hair doesn't stick as much.

I have some heated leather seats in my truck. And they are only cold if I choose for them to be cold. I have 5 kids and let me tell ya. Leather is the way to go. Not to keep up with the jones's but to keep clean. But for you its too late. I like those Jeeps. Good luck!

I figured I'd throw up an update. We've had it for 22 days now and driven about 850miles and through 4 tanks of gas averaged 22.54mpg, 5-6 better than the Cherokee we traded in.
Only complaints are that the manual instructions for disabling the horn honk on the door locks don't work and the DRL's aren't coming on. No big deal I'll get it fixed when it's due for the first oil change.
Other than that it's been great the CVT is awesome it's a dream to drive once you get acquainted with it since the electronic throttle has a slight delay.
