View Full Version : Is Magic Salt "organic"?
I got a call tonight from a guy in response to my ad for Magic Salt. The first thing he wanted to know was "Is it organic?" I wasn't sure how to answer that one, so I asked what he meant. He said "Is it Calcium or Sodium based?" Apparently, he meant if it was either, then it wasn't organic.
My thought was that he really didn't know what he was asking, but I didn't want to tell him that. Anybody have any idea how "organic" would apply here?

If by organic he means "human/animal friendly" tell him that the liquid used to treat the salt is safe for human consumption. It may taste undersireable and smell like molases but as I have been told it is fully safe for human consumption.

I just looked up organic in Webster's, there are 5 possible definitions, none of which can be applied to salt of any kind.
The Magic portion of it would fit "of, like or derived from living organisms" as it is a yeast by product.
Also seems these tree huggers are misusing the term as it applies to agriculture, I can't find anything that relates to "Organic farming" methods.
That customer would set off a flag in my PITA warning system, Mick. Is this the one in the next town?
Pelican, this is just somebody who called me. I have no idea who it is. In my ad, I put "safe for pets, plants and concrete". So I'd say he falls in that category of "tree huggers (who) are misusing the term as it applies to agriculture". Plenty of those and wannabes around here.

I actually dipped my finger in the MAGic liquid and tasted it right in front of some guys in the shop that were concerned about the stuff. ( the liquid looks nasty). Tasted pretty salty, but I'm still alive. The MSDS says its simply magnesium chloride and distillers solubles. I don't know if you would call it organic, but its pretty safe stuff.

To those people "organic "usually means natural not man made or helped by a man made process. So within their definition any resultant of a man made process would not be organic . salt yes , the liquid no
