Howard,
Very nice, wish I had one! I think you'll love the way it'll move snow and it should be a comfortable ride to boot. Pewags are awesome chains (both in price and performance), but certainly worth it for the kind of work you're doing. The Pronovost blower is cool, the swivel hood is a great idea. The number of times I've almost "punted" a rock with the auger through a door or window is spooky, the cover would eliminate that potential. Best of luck with the new toy!

Contrats Howard,
What's the operating weight? Can you haul it with your truck?
I think I will have to take a short road trip when you get. Gonna have to see the bi-direction up close.

One of the Vendors at the Snow and Ice Show was looping that video. I watched it more than once and I think Cat320 did too!! Actually if I remember Rick tried to break the seat in the bi directional tractor! LOL

YAHOO!!!!!!!!!! He took my suggestion. Bi-directional with pronovost blower. Ulimate snow removal tool ever. Period. BTW it will push a 16' protech loader box if you have the rear weight kit and front wheel weights too.

Very nice machine!! Does it have hydraulics at the bucket?

I think the tires are reversed though, the tread should be in the opposite direction.

salopez

actually those are the wrong tires. there is a special tire from goodyear that are non directional made special for that machine....

Steve, that's the Bi part. Now Howard can go either way. In his tractor that is. I hope.

I would sort of think they might have them the tread the other way with the loader on that side of the tractor though.

Very nice piece of equipment. How are you going to set it up? What are you going to put on each end?

Alan

I think the tires are reversed though, the tread should be in the opposite direction.

With the tires set up for "forward" being the hood end of the machine, the way they are now, traction is going to really suck when you're working the bucket. Ag tires are designed to force material out of the tread in the primary travel direction. When working them "backwards" they will pack material under the tire instead of cleaning properly and traction is exceptionally poor in that condition. I don't think the chains will overcome that problem when you're working the bucket in your case. It's fairly easy to make them "right" in this case, all you need to do is swap sides with the wheels, keeping the same side of the tire out. If you just turn a wheel around it will likely change your tread width as ag wheels are usually set up so that turning a wheel around allows for tread width changes. I'd leave the fronts as they are. As is they will be aggressive when you're "backing" out with the loader or operating the blower(I assume the blwoer will be going on the "front" of the machine . For working the blower you should get plenty of grunt with the reversed rears and correctly oriented fronts.

Keep in mind that chain life goes down rapidly as the chains loosen. Considering that the chains will be on all winter I'd air the tires down and snug the chains as tight as possible, then bring tire pressues back up to normal levels. That should result in chains being as tight as can be had and keep those expensive little gems lasting as long as possible. It has been my experience that ag tires are real beasts to get chains tightened properly, those big lugs make it difficult to get the cross chains straight across the tire but once you run them they have a way of working any loose slack out and things are floppy again.

What style Pewag chains are you getting?

Howard,

Very cool machine. I think you'l get along just fine with it. 400-500 hrs. is nothing on a machine like that. Instead of changing all four tires around, just change two and see how that works. Once again, way cool.

How is it going to make a difference just switching the front to the back and vice versa? :p

Just change the two on either the loader end or the other end. Maybe it would help with traction. Tractor treads suck in the reverse position, backing out of mud or snow sucks. Maybe if just changed the two, you would have traction in forward and reverse. Just an idea.

Mark, you must be into the foo-foo dust heavy today, the fronts are way smaller. You don't swap front to rear, you just turn around one on each end. That way one side pulls going forward and the other in reverse.

Are you saying they are the same size? Doesn't look it in the picture, may be just camera angle. Now that you mention it the few that I've seen did have the same size on all four conrers

atgreene
01-19-2007, 01:49 PM
Howard, you'll need one of these to do it right. Either that or loop a chain through the rim to the other side so the spinning of the tire tightens them, not reccomended, but we used to do it on the skidder that way. Getting them off was a little rough, though.

http://www.labonville.com/shop/pc/viewCat_h.asp?idCategory=7

As far as reversing tires, run them in the direction your going to travel. Highway travel on pavement will wear them fast, espesially if they are turning with the tread in reverse. Andy is right, run the front one way and the rear another, if all else fails. The non-directional similar to what they run on the graders and loaders now is your best bet when these wear out.

Should be the same size just like the Versatiles we were talking about someplace.

As for the one side front to back, it was a joke. Obviously a bad one since I needed to explain it. sheep
