I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0 engine. It has an electric fan so it is not attached to the water pump. Does anyone know if this can be changed with a "shade tree" mechanic's set of tools. I do not have a puller. I'm hoping it is just a matter of turning some sockets?
Additionally, has anyone experienced a problem with dual zone heater blowing warm on one side and cool on the other side even though the settings are set to the same temp? I have been told it is the blend door which requires removing the whole dash.

Water pump is gravy you can do that no problem. The duel Zone is a broken blend door have done a bunch it requires dash removal and i would not recomend it. Some of my own techs wont or dont pull dash's.

Hey Fred, thanks for the info. I'll give the water pump a shot. I'll let the blend door go for now. At least the driver's side is blowing warm right now. I guess the wife will have to bundle up! :wink

If anyone has the same problem with the heat going out on a Grand Cherokee (a VERY common problem apparently) there is a product called the Heat Treater available on ebay and made by a guy in Texas to fix this problem. The heat went out on the driver's side of my Cherokee last month so it was time to do something. I found out about this product and ordered it. Took me about 1.5 hours to install it and now I have heat again! The part cost $130 but to fix it it would have cost anywhere from $600- $1,200 at the dealer. You lose the dual zone functionality but it fixes the problem A LOT cheaper.
