I think its a personal opinion , to me they dont look right on a pick up sorry a KW or Peterbuilt yes.

In Mich exhust regs have changed so much in the last 10 years iam not sure there truly legal here on a pick up. I know all car exhust we do performace wise cannot dump before the axle anymore . I guess they belong on big rig and even with the 650 i dont think they would look good.

There is a second generation Dodge round here with one stack, that truck sounds so awesome. I should add the stack is wider then a coffee can.
I love the sound of the Cummins, it doesnt have that "Nasal" ee whine to it like the ricer diesels, or the 6.0.

I don't really like them on the pickups either - I get a kick out of the guys who want to be Billy BigRig and try to turn their dually into a mini-Pete. If that's what you want, than just buy the real thing! Or buid yourself one of those 1/6 versions or something.

To me, they are a sympton of SSBNS - Severe Sunburn of Back of Neck Syndrome.

Didn't Dodge try these once - Lil Red Express. They didn't look right then either. If you want to do exhaust on a pickup - put some nice duals on under the truck. At least they look normal, and can sound great.

LMAO. That's a good one Dave. However, if you use that, NASCAR is going to have to change it's name too. From:

to:

NASCASSBNS?? It just doesn't work, sorry.

Todd, thanks for lumping the 6.0's in with the ricers. I used to think you were a nice guy.

I think they look good but only on regular cabs. On any cab bigger they look a little weird.

Pros

They are great on a plow truck,no more smashing up tailpipes when backing up over stuff.

The sound is awesome.

The main benefit is it's a lot easier to get around in a hopped up truck, without fogging out everyone behind you.

Cons

Not to crazy about the looks.

Pretty noisy in the cab,and can cause droning, which drives you nuts on long trips.

Harder to purposely fog somebody out when you want too. From a dead stop, most of the smoke goes straight up.It's a little better at speed, some of it will get the guy behind you.A regular exhaust is much better for filling cars through the windows though.:D

:smokin1

They fill with water, and then puke a sooty mess when you fire it up.Not good on a white truck.

I don't see the point of installing them in a truck with a standard pickup bed. Takes up too much room, and looks fairly stupid in my opinion.
If I had a flat bed, I would consider it, but Chris made a point I had never though about with the additional noise in the cab.

I did rip off my tail pipe this last storm

Alot of the guys run em becasue it does piss off the track when you fog out the lights. Also when you run a ton of diesels it seems like it dirties the lil eyes and such and the lights will flake out randomly. Plus starting line guys dont like getting hosed. Some rules stipulate upward turned exhaust

I have a tool box in the bed so its not a posibility. I like the looks on some trucks. But functionaly it does wax bed space and you do have to worry about jackasses stuffing cans and cups down your pipes.

They do increase interior noise quite a bit. LB7s sound great though so I wouldnt mind :D

My 2500 had 2 - 5" stacks when I bought it. I couldn't wait to get them off. They had a real drown on the highway which was not too bad, but when starting from a stop, or while under load it was extremely obnoxious. The funny thing is, I got a ton of thumbs up, and tons people come up to me while getting fuel/etc. to comment on those "sweet stacks", or to ask about them. All I can say is they are something thats cool on "that guys truck", but I don't want them on mine.

I will say that they are cool on a diesel in the truck pulls.

I think they're way cool, especially when the black smoke is rolling out of them!!!

Only if it can do this. No plow needed, melts snow before it hits the ground.

I typically laugh at the rednecks around here that have stacks, and there aren't many. However, there's a guy in Plymouth somewhere (seen it twice now) that has a mid 80's chevy reg cab lifted, really clean, nice lookin' truck that has a cummins transplant and stacks. That truck is just plain mean! Not one I'd like to drive every day, but looked sweet non-the-less. On a toy, stacks might be ok, but not on a daily work truck.

The stacks for the track makes sense. If you wanna see some creative stacks, go check out the staging area of a sled dog race. The one I volunteer for, just about every dog truck has a stack, and the purpose is to be able to idle the truck, warm it up, etc without suffocating the dogs in the back. Kinda funny when you see an old gasser with stock exhaust and a funny looking stack welded on the far back corner of the truck...:haha And they're as quiet as a stock truck with no stacks... Naturally, when you see stacks, you expect noise...

I like them alot, but thats why the call me a redneck too. I like the look of two 6" Bull Hauler stacks on a Dodge Dually pickup or Flatbed.

I though some big rigs are now running the exhaust down the sides and out behind sleeper? Plus on a pick up, they just look out of place and have redneck written all over them, sorry rednecks. When I was young, I wanted them, more just to be cool, but now think dual exhaust out the back looks best.

hlntoiz, I've got a truck like that too. It's a 1962 White, mine has a Cummins though with a 10 speed RoadRanger. It has a dump body on it, I used it to haul materials when I built my home. Does yours have a 6/71 in it?

Steve, I will find out more about it. It is actually my buddies. He said I can have it though. It may be the exact same truck.

stacks are cool-on someone elses truck. They look great on cab/chassis trucks, dump trucks, flat beds, and sled pull trucks too.On a pickup they dont look right, and its complicated building them, and they still take up too much space.

Local farmer here has a cab and chassie Dodge with a tag axel. Mounted on the back is a sprayer with a 60 ft. boom. Has one stack that sticks up only as high as the cab. Looks and sounds way cool. It's the only truck with a stack here that looks cool. I voted alrite but not for me.

Bought my '90 f-250 had 'em on it once we got the rust fixed and painted it i upped the stacks to 5" it's alright, not bad to take them off the way they're mounted plus i have a muffler off of a detroit that fits right on when the stacks are off, once i started using the truck i got alot of good comments on the stacks so i decided to keep them on most of the time.

If you want stacks buy at semi and put them on that. A nice 7inch set on a big truck looks great.

Wouldnt those big stacks fill with water when parked in the rain? And then when you started it wouldnt it blow black sooty water all over?

wyldman
01-28-2007, 04:35 PM
Yes,they do fill with water, and can end up blowing a black mess all over the truck.

Curved stacks are better than slash\angle cut for keeping water out. When building them, keeping the tubing to the stacks running down hill, and putting a small drain hole in the pipe before it comes up into the box will help get rid of a lot of water building.

If the truck will be parked for a long period of time,in heavy rain, you can just use a couple of old cans to cover the stacks.

I thought some had "PEE" holes at the very bottom to drain water out???

I personally wouldnt do them. It just wouldnt be practical. I can only imagine how much stuff in the bed of the truck would melt. Those diesel exhausts get f'ing HOT!!!! Although the only ones I do like are the single stack that is really short and points straight up. Those look pretty bad ass:cool:
