SInce we have to start all over with the 'archives' of information. I'm going to take this opportunuty to start a thread containing soome of the most asked questions- regarding blade wings, ProWings to be specific.
I'd like to post pictures for all those that are wanting more information about them, how they work, how to install them, or any other questions that might be asked when considering them. I'm going to post pictures as various stages of installation, with descriptions. If you would like to add anything along the way, please do.
Here's the first thing you'll see when opeining the box:

I decided that black wasn't a very good color for snowplow parts, so I decided to paint them red and plan to add some reflective tape to the outer edges for better visability.
This is the first coat, just to make sure it'd stick. I had to rough up the surface a little. I'll probably end up using three coats just so it makes a strong and thick layer.

WINGS...........I have a set of Turkey Wings on my
Western rig. This will be my 3rd season with them.
They work GREAT for my application because I have
a LOOOOOOOG pushes to put the snow way out
back on my field.
No spillage, great to windrow with just one on one
side.
I can adjust the spread on them so they will be wider
than the plow. If you don't need them during back
dragging...Just pull the pin and they come off easily.
Another plus with the Turkey Wings is they will
"trip" with the plow because they ride up and down
in channels and are not solidly mounted to the blade.
They also "ride" up and down in the channels to
ride over bumps, lumps, etc................
Check out their web site www.turkeywings.com
to see them in action !
I was TOO cheap to buy a "V" plow....So the Turkeys
were a bargain at $200 bucks for my straight blade!

Sonjaab did you make any mods to your wings? if so what did you do? any pics?
Here's one of my sets. I didn't like the black either ;)
Handy,
It looks like you had to cut off the edges a little, and lose some plow width! I bet you had some tight spots that required that modification?

JOE, The only mods I have done to the Turkeys
was to drill a hole in the bottom of one of the
slots and add a lynch pin......Then they wouldn't
ride up out of the channel when tripped.
I also use a lynch pin on the top chain so I can
adjust the wing "spread".
I haven't seen other brands of wings in "action"
and didn't know if they tripped with the plow
and I assumed they were not adjustable.
I saw the Turkeys at the BBQ and my questions
were answered. So they were the best for my
needs. Rod the Turkey Wing guy gave me a
cash money special deal $200 bucks complete!
Micah 79 Just picked up a new set from Rooster.
(He stole them too.... cheap!)
Rooster bought them then changed to a V plow
so he didn't need them !
Stop by my place and ya can check them out!

Sonjaab, thanks for the info...I am planning to stop by soon...I will give you a call before I do...maybe I'll drag Bill up with me.
I'm thinking of getting a set of wings and would like to see your set up and have a :drinkup

Handy-
You sure had to cut a lot off of those wings when you added the U-edge. Do you have any problems with snow leaking through?
sonjaab
11-12-2003, 01:36 PM
BTW.........
A LOT of the Plowheads in my neck of the woods
always stop by and watch them in action !
(While waiting for the bar to open and have a
cold one AFTER their route is finished !)
They say WTF are those things ?
I have a laugh too. Some think I am running a
box plow on my rig !
I have never seen anyone out here running ANY
kinds of wings either...commercial or residential !
The Turkey wing guy wants to send me a few sets
to show off to these guys out here.........
I don't know.... toooo busy now as it is!
I am gonna turn my local Western dealer onto them.
He NO sell any kind of wings so maybe it will work
out for them........................geo

Yes,
I had to cut the wings to fit with the u-edge 1.5" under the mold board last year.
This year I sandwich the u-edge between 2 cutting edges. My little Meyers can use the extra weight and I pick up 3.5" of moldboard height, the gap you see in the wings. I am going to close up the gap with some deflector rubber to prevent leaking.
Don't know how things will work as yet
This may be me on the first run :headwall :headwall
Will keep you posted
Mark
LOL I wasn't talking about that. For those that were concerned, that gap doesn't allow any snow through.
What I was saying is that it looked likt the OUTSIDES of the wings were cut down smaller for some reason. Looks moreso on the driver side wing. But it could just be the picture also.

took a little of the sides, about 3/4" a side.
Still measures 8'11"
I like the Sponge Bob theme on the plow. If you look close enough you can see him on my dash.
Mark.

Just out of curiosity, how long did the rubber edges last before you guys replaced them with urethane?
My local dealer is bringing in some urethane for demoing this year, I might try to get my hands on a few pieces for the wings, if the rubber isn't strong enough.
Can't remember. For the set in the pic I posted, I had just replaced the rubber. So I replaced the brand new rubber with urethane, another wasted purchase LOL.

I only had one season on my rubber. It was still in pretty good condition. I ended up giving them away to a buddy.
I replaced it when I put on the u-edge.
BRL.....I can relate on those wasted purchases

I am going to order "wings" on Monday. Right now I am leaning toward Turkey Wings, from what I read, they seem like the best choice. Do you guys (and gals) have any experience with the Power Scoops? They seem like a similar product with the exception of how they mount. The only thing I dont think I like about the Turkey's, is that you have to drill rather large holes in the moldboard???? Am I correct about this? I appreciate any input.

Woohoo boys! Tomorrow afternoon. I'm gonna try to dig stuff out, get it all prepped and install my Pro-wings! Of course, I'll be taking lots of pictures. Does the equipment have to be 18 years old for the plow porn to be legal?:rolling
sonjaab
11-14-2003, 02:11 AM
Matt......Yes...You do have to drill 6 holes in
the face on
each side of the moldboard (left and right)
to mount the channels for the Turkey Wings.
I have not had a problem with doing that tho.
The Turkeys being like a box plow allows me to
adjust the wing "spread" if necessary !
Especially when plowing the banks drive thru
lanes which aren't too wide as it is!
If I had pro-wings I prob. wouldn't be able to fit
thru the lanes.........
Like I say...They work rhe best for my applications!

MATT..........BTW: The 6 holes I had to drill were
only 11mm...(smaller than 1l2 inch)

Reading the post and would like to know were everyones geting the urethane replacement rubbers for the wings i keep tearing the rubber ones up on the one plow we have with wings the problem i have with ours is the rubbers wont stay in place the suck in and i get tired of pulling them out all the time.
JohnnyU
11-24-2003, 08:57 PM
I got them all drilled and bolted up, just have to put the rubber edges on. Right now, I'm sitting at 9'2", and I'll gain about 1" on both sides when I put the rubber on, 9'4" is pretty good, and I get a little containment as well!
What is the best way of cutting or drilling the holes in the rubber? I was thinking about just using a hole saw, but its such a small hole...
Use a "paddle" bit in your drill. Even a regular bit will go through with no problem being that small of a hole.

Wings were flame cut from patterns I made off the plow.Welded together with a base angle, and a separate carbide edge.Moldboard is some of the same stuff they use for hockey rinkboards.

The extension wings above are for a 9 ft Western, and they make it almost 12 ft wide.
I also have extended our Snoways,as I got a smoking deal on 4 6.5 ft blades. They were too small for what we do,so i extended them to 8.5 ft with 1 ft extensions.
They are bolted on to either side of the plow, and I have had no problems with them bending as of yet.I used on solid piece of carbide cutting edge across the bottom,to give them more strength.

Front side.
You can see the one piece carbide edge.I used two scrap pieces of Lexan for the moldboard surface. When this plow needs a new moldboard,I'll probably do the lexan all the way across in one piece.
