A thing of beauty! Where will you be using this big blade and how much does it weigh?

What stops the wings from folding back and bending the ram or something?

I could use the wing here. Stupid idiots that try to squeeze in on the side of the road when there lane ends when you sit in traffic or something. They have to try to pass you.. You have the solution. Open up one of the wings so they can’t get by ya.

Dave.

Can you operate your wings independently? Looks like the wings are folding backwards? Do the wings flop when you drive down the road? What stops the wings? It looks like it is built like a tank. Good luck. Pray for snow.

Jon

yes the wings go independently. yes they are folding backwards some which is why i choose this design, not the design that you have jon. They flow about 1" at max and were designed to do this. All in all, this is by far the best plow i have seen yet!

This plow can be used anywhere, parking lots, driveways, whatever. and the way the cylinder is hooked explains why it wont fold any further back (SEE PIC) It is all the way IN which gives the stregnth

mark, funny you say that about my sign. It just blew away about an hour ago, so once this wind stops i gotta put it back up. Just remember

MICHIGAN NEEDS SOME **** (devos) (it wouldn't just let me write his first name)

Jon,
That blade is sweet. Can you get a picture of the undercarrage of the truck without the blade, just curious to see what it looks like. What kind of edges are you running on the back blade? Also, How wide is the blade with the wing folded in?

Thanks
Troy

Traction will be easily exceeded with such a wide blade .

Yes, but can you control the wings independently, or do they both open together? That was my question. Do the wings flap as you go down the road? Is there any play with the wings folded in? What makes your design more superior than my plow?

Just asking?

Thanks,

Jon

Yes SEPERATE CONTROLS FOR BOTH WINGS. 1" of slop at most. The curved mold board is stronger and the fact that the wings go back nearly 10 degrees makes it windrow better. That is why I picked Jim's! Better????? maybe not, but maybe. Who knows, that is the reason I picked his

8ft mold board, 4 ft wings. I will get a pic as soon as i take it off! just under 8'6" closed!

so any web sites to see the specs and where to get these rear plows like that?

As far as I know, there is no website at all. And again, as far as I know, Grand Rapids, MI is the only place to get one. Maybe Mark or Jon Geer can confirm that though

Thats what you think. I am pretty sure that you would be surprised!

Just basing my thoughts on my experience with back plows . The only thing that may save it is if the 1" backwards angle allows it to shed snow quickly

your snow tends to be much heavier than ours too.. and it folds back almost a foot at the end of the 4 ft wing! Check out the pic

Jeepers criminy, Jon, you act like you've never seen one of Jim's back blades before. Quit acting stupid, you are aware that Jim will set up the wings independently if the purchaser desires. I won't get into a pissing match on what makes it better, only one question: Where (who) did you get the bumper design on your truck from? 'Nuff said

Rick, it is made by a local fabricator, I would consider him to be on the same level as Jerre, except on the back end of the truck--that is back blades. Name of the company is Ebling & Sons Blacksmith. # is 616-532-8400. Been around for over 100 years now and we've been using him for fabricating and repairs for close to 40. He knows his steel and will build things to not break, if it does and it was his fault, you won't get a bill for repairs. We have been using his back blades since the mid 80's. I have said it before, we have yet to have any lost time due to design or build, operator error-yes, but not his fault. There were some problems about 10 years ago with cylinders, but those have long since been resolved. We don't have any this big, but have one that goes to 11' and they have their place. I have some opinions on the big ones, but that's for a different time\place.

Forgot to mention Jon G, if you look at the pic in post #4 you can see the 3 valves stacked on the pump for independent operation of the wings. Guess my eyes aren't that bad.

And, yes, Bill, you are correct.

Mark,

I was not getting into a pissing match, I was just wondering if they opened independently. I have seen Jim's blades to where the wings open at the same time. Just wondering.

I did not know that I had such a negative following. It's all good. Just trying to get information out .

Thanks,

Jon

Following? whats the Def of a following ? some wouldnt understand unless they were around in the early days . I have seen Marks trucks and the fab work this guy does is awsome , not many true craftsman left.

Me neither, Jon, just pointing out that Jon A (FirstClass) answered your question in his first reply, then you continue on about flapping in the breeze and stopping the wings, etc. You've seen Jim's blades first hand, heck your boss threatened him with a lawsuit for patent infringement, you were at Jim's shop when the plow was being installed on the truck because you gave him a bunch of crap about the ghetto tint and tires\wheels etc. So you knew all the answers, just kept asking for some unknown reason.

My question is when going down the road do the wings fold forward towards the front of the truck or what do yoiu do to go down the road
I know its a stupid question but I have no exp. with back blades.
we don't do residential here and not many companies will. There isnt enough money in it

Firstclasslawn
11-03-2006, 07:09 AM
yes! They fold right up to the sides of the truck!

Jon,

can we have an update on this? Im considering upgrading my Daniels to something larger like this. Any words of praise or caution for someone going wider like me? Did you have experience with a smaller one prior to this beast?

Firstclasslawn

Before this plow I had a 8'6" rear plow that I had build myself (similar to danilels type plow). I WILL NEVER GO BACK ON MY OWN TRUCK!!!!.

At the same time, I won't be installing these on any of my other trucks because I am yet to find anyone competent enough to run it without hitting anything (like a dumpster). I ususally try to put $18,000 or so worth on plowing on my standard truck (with 8ft front and 8'6 backblade) Last year i put $33,000 on my truck with the 16ft and DID IT WITH EASe. Many nights i would go help out my driver in the normal truck when I got done. (don't bother bitching about my figures, i know my costs and what I need to make per hour. 33,000/ 20 times per year/ 7 hours per time = $235.71 PER HOUR. ON THE BIG PLOW.....FOR THE NORMAL TRUCK 18, 000/20times per year / 7 hours per time = $128.57 per hour. (i try for 130/hr on a standard truck))

THe numbers don't lie...Now figure in extra wear and tear....extra cost for plow (3,000)... MUST HAVE SNOW TIRES!!! ($500)....must have a competent plow driver (impossible to find).... 10% more fuel.....AND THE FACT THAT ITS USEFULNESS STARTS TO GO DOWN EXPONENTIALLY AFTER 6-7 inches. It may or may not be worth it.. I will probably ALWAYS have one on my truck. but I will probably not have many around strictly because I don't trust anyone to run it! MARK... Feel free to chime in on this one!!!!! i know that you have some thoughts about this part

we are working on another video that shows it being used in my church's lot (pretty big lot) During day so that it can be seen WELL!

anymore questions??? let me know!

I like the idea of going SUUUPER wide. We have a 10.5 acre site with a 1 inch trigger, and I think this could be used there. I have NO experience with a back blade. I do know that with a smaller one you are supposed to be able to back into residential drive, drop back blade, and then drive forward. With this thing being 16' wide... how do you do it? Drive in reverse. May sound like a crazy question, but really honestly have no idea how to use it. Fill me in guys.
