I was changing the fluid on a 2 year old wertern pro plus. I noticed a lot of water in with the plow fluid. The plow will raise but no left or right. There seems to be some rust in there(pump housing. We cleaned it out as best as we could. Any Advice?

First you will need to drain all the fluid. Pump, pistons and hoses. Fill the pump with fresh fluid and work it a bit,top off pump, get all the air worked out then drain it all one more time and repeat the filling process. This should flush out any junk as well as moisture. Also remove the screen (filter) and clean that good.

We did all that and the plow will not mover left or right. I am hoping that there is not rust inside the valve block.

Sounds like the angle rams were sucking in air and water, and now may be siezed.Pull them off and see of you can move the plow.Pushing one side against a solid object may also break it free. You will need to hold the plow control in the right direction when you do it.Most likely you will need to rebuild or replace the rams.

Do you really think the problem is in the rams. I kind of think rust might have built up in the valve block. The unit is two seasons old and the rams look to be in good shape. I believe the water came in the system over the summer when the plow was sitting outside. If that is correct you would think there would not be water in them. I could be wrong and usually am. Thanks for you help Chris.

Let me know what you think.

It is possible it got in over the summer, but it sounds like it's a lot more than just condensation.Where else could have it got in ?

Try to figure out why the plow won't angle first. To diagnose a stuck valve, you could disconnect the plow hoses, and see if it moves freely. You can also see if there is any water sitting in the rams when you move it back and forth. This will release the pressure,so if it will move freely. If it doesn't,then you have a siezed ram(s),or a pivot problem.

Will the water cause any major ploblems no that it is cleaned out. It is all cleaned out but i am concerned with the possibility of rust and it causing on going problems this winter. I feer the rust getting stuck in the valves and what ever else.

You'd have to have a lot of water in there to rust up the valves that quick.Start with the basics first, and find out why it's not angling.

I was at the plow dealer today and it was determined that the 30 coil was bad. I was shocked b/c that is something we checked and we even put in new coils incase there was water/rust damage to them. The Issue that came up was it was a 31 coil not a 30. The 30 we put in didn't work. I had never herd of this but I was told that at some point Western swiched to a 31 coil on the new style plows. How can this be there in no mention of this in parts manuals and the owners manual. Anybody herd of this mysterious 31 coil.
