View Full Version : The censorship begins at SC
Unfortunately one is only able to express their view if it follows the party line.
& the slide into LS/PS realities begin...

You are correct Ted, there will be some censorship here at Snowplow-Contractors. When one member such as yourself chooses to insult one or more other members in the manner you did on the Lawn Cafe post, it will be removed.
If you have any questions regarding this policy, direct them to Chuck Smith.
Thank you.

What are you talking about Ted? I haven't seen any signs of censorship. Chuck has estanblished guidelines and has asked us to follow them.
Unless you were trashing the other site, or blatantly disregarded the posting guidelines and posted something that a decent human being wouldnt post, I really can't believe anyone censored you.

No one has a clue what your talking about... Maybe its the party rules that need to be followed? Were all pretty easy going and open here and we all tend to bend the rules a little once in a while without the mods stepping in, so without knowing what your talking about right now, i wont call it censorship.

Jeff, I agree 100%. Ted, if you arent happy here, maybe PS will have you back. :) This forum is the best around, if you decide to leave, you will be the one missing out, not any of us. Chuck and the guys do a very very good job of running the show here and I honestly think they are all very easy going guys, no one is out to hurt anyone. Mike

If one compares this fine site with one such as the "OLD" site then I dont think they are getting what this site is really worth and maybe they shouldnt bother coming here if they are going to overlook how great this site is.

I have been on this site from almost the beginning, and I have not heard of or seen any.
If you are being censored then you most likely need to be. We come here to learn about snowplowing!
If you are censored you are most likely not following the rules that have been posted for all to read.

So who is Ted at LC? Does he need to change his name a lot?
I sure haven't seen anyone complaining here, but someone has to be the first. So Ted you seem to be the one. Good to see that the mods aren't to afraid to give the reason why by way of this forum, very open (if that's how you want it) and the way I would expect to be treated if I was out of line.

Normally we would try to resolve issues in private, I had PM'd Ted (or Casey) about his posts that I removed and why, but he chose to make a public issue of it.
Out of nearly 16,000 posts, only a handful have been pulled, and many of those have been at the request of the authors.
The site has been running very smoothly to this point. Thanks everyone!

"The censorship begins at SC"
LOL
Congratulations Casey!! You have the first post that had to be deleted here for breaking the rules in the first month and a half of this site's existence! Way to go making us censors here finally  Part of your post did include a rather nice comment from you to the effect that members here have a modicum of intelligence & useful information to share. Thank you for those kind words. One other post was deleted because it would have been out of context as it only addressed a religiously offensive comment that was edited in another post in that thread. That person did not start a censorship thread. A few others have had curses edited and an insult of another member edited, and they didn't start censorship complaint threads either. You seem to be the only one complaining about not following the simple rules to interact here equaling censorship.
Since you are being censored here, here is a novel idea. Partake in one of the several other MB's dedicated to the snow industry since they don't "censor" their members. ************* will probably take you back as well, as the censoring, power tripping moderators that used to be there are gone now. You should be able to make your insults of their members, and members of other MB's without suffering the censorship you so despise and suffer from here. When I go to a location & receive bad service, I don't go back. Simple solution to that problem that has worked well for me in the past, IMO. :beatsme

although i didnt see your post im almost positive that there was a rule infraction that caused it to be deleted... unlike the other site posts dont just randomly dissapear without warent here... as a matter of fact you would be the first person on here to complain about it and as you noticed the mods were quite willing to explane why it got deleted... and if ya dont agree then pick up your toys and move to another sandbox... noones forcing you to stay here...

ted ,casey or kingplow . I am sure you broke the rules and the Mods did what they are required to do . If you dont follow the rules you have the consequences to deal with , just like your repo / towing business . Especially if you tried to post comments like I read on that sparklight site .

When any of us joined this forum we agreed to certain rules. I for one think that they are reasonable, and should I cross over the line at some point I certainly would hope that the Mod's would point it out to me and delete anything offencive that I had posted. Sometimes in the heat of the moment things are said that normally would not be said. I feel that the Mod's here do an excellent job.:salute :salute :salute

I always review my posts prior to posting and have even not posted my thoughts on some issues out of respect for other members. This site is not my personal whipping post. Anybody can post whatever they want but if it does not meet guidelines it will be pulled and that should be expected. Ted, you could always start your own site I even have a catchy name for it " Teds excellent plowing adventures"

Ok- I wondered how long it would be before somebod tried to stir up the pot in this manner. Speaking as someone who has been here since the beginning, the moderators and Chuck have done an excellent job to date. I have seen some of the editing that they have done- and as per the rules we all agreed to when we joined it was appropriate. We are here to discuss and learn about plowing and each other. Not to bash other members, their beliefs, or abilities. We are all interested in the same thing, and do what we do out of enjoyment mainly, and profit secondly. If you do not like it here, or feel you have been dealt with heavy handedly- then leave. I am sure there are places out there who would tolerate your posts and views, as we have done to a point. I personall applaud and salute the owner and moderators of this great site for an excellent job done to date, and I am proud to be associated with such a profeesional group of people who are dedicated to helping out those of us in the same industry.
That being said I will get down of my :soapbox and thank everyone once again, oh BTW- I hope everyone has a happy New Year, I have been down with the flu, so mine will be a quiet one, but I hope everyone elses is not!!

I don't think censor is the best term for these replies. Perhaps, well, Modify would be a better term to use. They are not censoring anything, covering anything up, nothing is being deleted so that we don't see or hear about it. It is more like a modification to the wording of posts. An example would include the 'naughty' words that have been edited out, that is against the rules, and generally not nice language. The other modifying that they have done would come in light of insults, low-blows and general ruckus-rousing that some members join with intent of causing. I do not see this as any form of censorship, especially compared to what we saw previously.
Casey, Ted, ****, whatever your name is, let the moderators alone, they wouldn't have to censor you if you would post within the guidlines. Is that so difficult?

The Moderators are here to "moderate", and in my opinion they're doing a fine job. (Frankly, I think the generally higher caliber of the membership makes their jobs easy, but they still deserve much credit. There are just an awful lot of posts to be kept up with!) :salute
If the kind of censorship existed here that caused so many members of the other site to "vote with their feet", so to speak, you wouldn't be reading this thread--it would have been deleted about an hour after the initial post....

READ and FOLLOW the RULES, and you will have no problems..
simple enough, and still, some people just dont get it.
As long as the rules are followed in accordance of the unwritten party line, which dictates its own set of rules that allows flagrant violation of the written code.
Now I see.

That's pretty flowery prose, Casey,,, errr, Ted. Please indulge all of us by explsining just what those "flagrant violations of the written code" are supposed to be. Failing that, don't go away mad,, just go away, please.
Incidentally, while I may be a Moderator, that is my personal opinion, based on your history on other sites.
I have decided to resign my position at SC. The most proficiant, educated, experienced and knowledgeable poster ever to grace this tainted message board will no longer share with you his wisdom.

Is it hard to breath where your head is?
No arrogance in the rest of his family I'll bet, probably none in the whole block where he lives. the rest of the houses are probably empty anyway.
We should have a forum for WHO???? so that those who enjoy a chuckle from time to time can go there.
In medievil times he would be in the audience of the kings. What did they call guys like that???

This was all TOO funny. First of all, why does anyone need more than one user name other than the fact that they are conducting themself other than what would be consdier respectful. Most of us are members of more than one MB's but still use the same user name.
If anyone ever would like to question the caliber of the membership here vs. LS/PS let me share this with you.
Being bored just yesterday I found myself surfin LS after not being there in awhile. I happened across a thread which I responded to in the same manner as I would have here.
Although sometimes my view of the thread strongly opposed the author they did have a point relating to the Lawn Care industry. Just because I opposed the author I was told I was bashing him.
Next thing I know, I was being cursed at, and I do not mean with ##**!! I mean direct spelled out profanity, and personal insults as well. Only to learn the person I was engaged in conversation with was 16 years old, stated to have been in business two years with an accont list, a web page, insurance and all. Than because he had over 3300 post to his credit on the site he began to threatened me with being suspended and/or banned from the site because I was just a new member with a low post count and he was a senior member. If that was not insulting enough some of the membership started up with supporting the kid leading to more profanity and insults.
So if that is the caliber of membership the moderators are trying to manage away from this MB's so be it.
I can personal say that I have publicly opposed the views of more than one moderator here but my views have always been respected and the posts on both ends have always been tactful and never in need of any editing.
I have nothing but respect for the open mindedness of Chuck and all of the moderators. As long as you are able to speak your mind without being offensive I can not see how anyone would ever be censored, edited, managed, or whatever you want to call it.
I will say that the thread I reffered to at LS was edited by a moderator and all of the profanity was removed and the member in question put on notice in public. So even if the membership at LS/PS is uncontrollable the Moderators do have some creditablity in my book.
Keep up the great work. I only wish the Lawn Care Industry had someone like Chuck and the guys.
One final thought on my legacy at SC..
I leave you my encyclopedic catalogue of postings with the desire that one day you will sift through and feel enlightenment and knowledge engulf you like an avalanche.
A selfless gift from a Cold Weather Industry Giant.
God Bless.

Mike,
I am not sure his is doing much worthy of Banning at this point. If that is all he has to say I guess he can say it all he wants. I think it is clear he is not willing to speak as he did in the case that caused this thread in the first place because he know that would get him banned.
At this point Ted is just a Funny guy that opened a Thread that was unwarranted and lacked any merit at all. The responses and number of views is a good thing for the overall morality of the viewing membership IMHO.
Let everyone see how a professional group of people from east to west, north to south can conduct themself and display matual respect not only for the RULES and OTHERS, but also for THEMSELF.
Honest Mike
01-04-2004, 07:45 AM
Yea, I guess you are right. All we are doing though by replying here, is giving him the attention he wants, which is why I stated that maybe this thread should atleast get closed. Oh, in my earlier thread, it should have read "He also stated somewhere.." not "I". :( Slight error, lol! Mike
This is some pretty funny reading, I actually put my other book down to get caught up. I believe in the old saying opinons are like, well you know the rest. I treat people the way I'd expect to be treated and I enjoy the site. I think Chuck and the boys are doing and outstanding job. One last thing, if Ted is who we all think he is, would he forward me the money he owes me for the last pallet of salt?:shades
What purpose would be served by banning anyone? They could simply re-register under a different name and start all over. Why don't we just ignore these posts that are obviously attempting to stir the pot?
