What is this and how does it compare to salts for melting? I came across this product that is supposedly safe for pets and children that uses it instead of salts. It is showing up in grocery stores and PetCo. I have submitted a request for pricing and read the MSDS. 1) I want to find out if it would be useful as an alternative in commercial ice management and 2) I want to be ready when someone asks.

Glycol is in pretty much all human consumables in some form. Glycol is what is used in pretty much all deicing proceedures at airports across the country. This year at the SIMA tour we got to see the Bradley Intl Airport snow fighting units facilities and equipment and we got a very long talk about Glycol and its common uses....
