Just a quick question, are the aluminum wheels on my '99 super duty clear coated or can they be polished? Also is there anything I cn do to keep them looking good. Thanks

I'm pretty sure they have a coating of some sort. Mine are 2 years old and show no signs of tarnish, I'd think they would have dulled if not coated.

Just keep them washed with soap and water, then a coat of wax will keep them looking good!

Thanks guys. Another quick question is there any grease points on the super duties ie: front steering componants or u-joints?
Thanks

The u-joints are all sealed, and have no grease fittings

On most of the SD's I've seen, the ball joints are sealed as well, unless they have been replaced.

The rest of the steering linkage may or may not have grease fittings, they all seem to be different.

Both of mine have grease fittings at all the steering links.

None on the u joints or ball joints.

That goes to show the difference.I had one in before Christmas, and it had no grease fittings on it at all,not one.

My 99 F350 also has the grease fittings for the steering linkage. My ball joints have the grease fittings as well, but they were just replaced.

Just a quick tip on what I have found on those wheels.

My former '96 SD and my current '99 SD both used those alum wheels. I would pull them off when it is convienient for you and put some anti-sieze (or something along those lines) between your alum wheel and the steel hub. Man, I had to use a BFH once to get the front tire & wheels off one time while replacing shocks. Those two dissimilar metals can really bond and corrode together nicely. Since then, whenever I rotate them, I slap a little A/S on the backs. No problems.

I am glad I didn't have to try that on a dark backroad in the middle of a storm, etc etc...... Know what I mean?

Don't forget to retorque the lugnuts after 200 or so miles of driving. I lost a wheel once while plowing after having my tires rotated a week before. Not fun!

HerkFE, Thanks for the A/S tip. I have never had a problem with my '00, BUT my buddys '04 f350 king ranch had a flat last week, we sat on the side of the road beating the rim off, it took us 20 min and a hand held sledge to get it off, the kicker was the wheels were just off getting bigger tires put on less then a month ago?

Yup, soap & water & wax here too.
