I've heard over and over that it is highly recommended to buy diesel fuel from a high-volume station, as the high volume will cause the in-tank supply to turn over more quickly, and not allow water to collect or algae to form.
Well... A friend of a friend of a friend recently purchased a gas station. A couple weeks ago, he decided that the inside of the station needed some love. He had all the pumps purged of fuel and shut down. (both gas and diesel) Now he's got some 4,000 gallons of #2 in the ground and is looking to get rid of it! omg omg Word on the street is to get it out of the ground and it's free for the taking.
Sooo.... I think I've got the getting it out of the ground part covered, but I'm a little concerned about storing it. Word is that the in-ground tanks at the station are less than a year old, so there shouldn't bee too much crud in them. I have storage for 600 gallons or so with little trouble, but I am concerned about maintaining the quality of the fuel until it gets used up. Will a strong dose of power service get it done?
