God bless ya. We filled a 500# propane tank full of water for a week prior to cutting it up. After a week it was still flamable omg Needless to say it never got cut up.....

That's a real nice rig. You ought to do some nice smoking in there!

The tank we wanted to cut up was from the 50's. Still had gas in it a few days before we filled it. We figured it was from the age that the gas would just not disappate.

Walt Nice job on the grill but like Chuck said i have these visions of the pictures at the loading dock of the welding supply store in my head of tanks blown.
People still dont get by me when i weld gas tanks on cars LOL have done them since working with my dad always use a exhust hose hooked to another running car the exhust gas is enert and wont allow it to blow , well at least not on me yet.:grinz

Fred, we purged gas lines for 24 hours with Nitrogen before cutting or welding on them. Purge them, use a sniffer in as many places as possible, then start sparkin'.
Best we could figure is it got in the metal after so many years. One of the guys lit a match and put it on the access hole on top, while it was full of water and it went whoosh.
And like Walt said... what a stench! Stupid me, I drove it a mile on a road on a forklift bringing it back to cut it up. They told me it was disconnected and empty omg.
And I forgot to say before, nice job Walt!
